Harlequins are in a fight to keep Sale target Chandler Cunningham-South with the England back row out of contract in the summer. Sale have space in their salary cap to recruit top-end signings, but the London club want him to stay - The Times.

If I was CCS I’d tell Quins I’m off unless I’m starting 8 each week. If he’s constantly chopped and changed with Dombrant I’d be off.

I’d also wonder why Quins would want both if CCS wants to play 8 and isn’t happy at 6 or lock.

With Willis going, it does present an obvious opportunity for a big, ball carrying 8 and CCS is probably the standout candidate for that role.

He’s not dislodging Dombrandt from the 8 shirt at Quins so with his contract being up, it might encourage him to look at other teams where he’d more be more likely to start at 8.

However, that’s on the assumption England want a big, ball carrying 8. For now, I think it’s more likely we switch to Earl at 8 (with Pollock as another similar option) which might mean CCS is better off focusing on 6. He brings useful skills either way but not playing at 8 isn’t necessarily a big blocker to his test ambitions.

Do we know that's the case tbf? May well be true but afaik it's just people assuming he/they would rather play 8?
But we assume that because he is and was always an 8. He was only shifted because he wasn’t first choice 8.

So you’d assume that he doesn’t suddenly want to play somewhere else. I’d also argue that his style is that of an 8, he’s not got the workrate of a 6 and is not a lock.

If Dombrant wasn’t already at Quins and London Irish hadn’t gone bust we would never be having this conversation.

Saracens have joined the race to sign Gloucester captain and Wales and Lions scrum-half Tomos Williams, who has interest from multiple clubs and R360.

Not sure about that - his lock move definetly seems to be something prompted by england wanting him as a diverse 6-2 bench option. Lots of assumptions is all I am saying
Yeah there is a fair few assumptions on that so good point. I tried to find an interview from him talking g about positions but couldn’t.

Do they need a 7? Or are they planning on moving Earl to 8 permanently?

He'd be best suited to Bristol IMO, they've needed an open side for a few years now and have the cash to pay him well
I’d rather he went to Bristol or the 5th region. I don’t like the idea of him going to Sarecens. Will get a nice pay packet though.
