URC Round 5: 2025/26

Lloyds forst start at 10 for Cardiff... it cant end soon enough, he is not good enough.

Missed his kick at goal by a mile, poor hands, backline looks a mess around him

Ref is putting Edinbirgh in the ascendancy early on, penalising for a non croc roll, offsides all over the place, and ignoring 2 edinburgh knock ons

Sebastian has given away 2 pens at the scrum, and has made 4 tackles, ending on his arse for all 4...

Hes stealing a wage at Cardiff!

I've always liked him and could never work out how Ross, who I have zero time for, was always ahead of him. Disappointed that Casper Gabriel didn't get more gametime, considering the game was over as a contest after 60 minutes. I'd love to have seen more than 6 minutes from him.

Sorry, replying to Leonormous Boozer from previous page.

Yeah, I remember when he pulled up in a pool stage match v Saints when he was flying. Always had horribly timed injuries and fell off. I back him strongly, think he has what it takes to be a good international too.

Lots of options, not always a good thing.

Played looking a bit hungover, but got the result by the skin of our teeth.

I do think Piardi is potentially the weakest ref in the league but sure look. Every time her referred us he looks below the level even if it has absolutely benefitted us at times. I don’t think he would have been elevated to this extent if he wasn’t Italian.

Hanrahan was dire for us tonight. A better ten and we probably put a score on Connacht. It’s worrying that Tony Butler can’t push ahead of him. Shane Daly meanwhile was excellent, made time on the ball. Dan Kelly also excellent. O’Donoghue the pick of the pack.

Mixed weekend for the pro Welsh teams. Scarlets still pointless, Ospreys still unable to win at Rodney Parade and Cardiff sneaking a lucky win over Edinburgh.

Lucky is a bit of a wild take or it’s bait and I’ve missed that ahah.

Defence was uncharacteristically poor for Cardiff first half. Second half it was a completely different game, played territory well generally, but thought we might rue being in the red zone three times and not converting. On balance it was fair.

Edinburgh really struggled with conditions second half, I was surprised they didn’t change tact, it was clear at the ground they were in a cycle of being stuck in their 22.

That game was made for Sheedy as Edinburgh played a rush defence but mgmt stuck with Ioan Lloyd, glad to see us win ugly. Almost gave me a heart attack box kicking possession away at 78.5 mins, but wins a win.

I Thought the idea of the wind dictated the game more than the wind itself, first half Mulders box kicking was overly safe, going out on the full most times, kept us pinned and under pressure. Edinbirgh thrived off the box kick 1st half.

I also think Cardiffs defence was a mixture of slowed up waiting for more kicking, and a bit jittery, but 2nd half it got better and faster off the line.

2nd half i thought Edinburgh put themselves under pressure, poor handling errors, however i think the damage was done in the 1st, Cardiff looked poor but really did well when they got opportunities, whereas 2nd half looked better but failed to put the points on the board when they got the chance.

Edinburgh never looked like winning that game, even when behind i expected opportunities to win it, whereas Edinburgh closed up shop hoping to hold out and survive.

Yeah fair assessment all around here dirty. The Edinburgh 15 looked handy made a few decent breaks. I'm surprised they stopped using the pick and go as it was making lots of ground for them, and led to one seemingly easy try.

Cardiff simply needed to win what they have in this first block with challenging games to come, but getting the Connacht the Edinburgh bad run off our backs is good.

Yeah, I thought Cardiff were good value for their win. It was a bit of a helter skelter first half with both sides in all out attack mode. Cardiff do need to cut out some of their basic errors e.g. botched restart which directly led to one of Edinburgh's try's.

Weather played a big part in the second half, and Cardiff managed that far better than Edinburgh. Some pinpoint kicking really forced errors and field position. Cardiff left it late after bombing a few opportunities, the lineout was an issue in key positions again, but they fully deserved the W.

Same as last season, we desperately needed the wins in the pre November block, id like at least 4 more before the 6N, and then we can scrap for LBPs (maybe pick up a win or 2) to make top 8.

March and May are going to be baron points wise

The lineout drives me loopy, the stupidest thing you can do in a lineout is dummy jump in the position your planning on jumping, Cardiff do it 2 to 3 times per game and its constantly stolen, its not rocket blwdi science!!!!
