A Political Thread pt. 2

It was the Torygraph that provided Trump with the info. It looks like they were trawling through old BBC footage looking for a 'gotcha' to bring down Davie.
Davie was also bought in to try and push a more a more right wing bias by the Tories. Their editorial standards have dropped considerably in the last decade but this was not worth caring too much about.

Its amazing how radicalised people are these days...

The right complain about the BBCs left wing nonce defending constantly, and especially after non coverage of a story, or covering a story too neutrally, then you guys bash them as right wing conspiracy nuts as soon as they are caught doctoring footage...

They cant win lol. Both sides of the same coin berate them for being on the others side hahahaha

I suspect Trump got on the blower to Starmer and leaned on him to get the P45 ready. It enables him to claim a 'win' and distract from his own Government shutdown - as his latest tweet suggests.

When right wingers accuse the BBC of being too left what they really mean is that it's not right wing enough. They've been fawning over Farage and Reform for a while now and they also didn't tolerate Lineker's criticism of the Tories. Perhaps the Tories nose is out of joint because they're irrelevant at the moment.

The BBC ultimately should be checking what goes out. Normally they seem pretty good at it.

Panorama touts itself as a Investigative documentary series revealing the truth about the stories that matter.

This is on them, regardless of who they did it too.

People are just looking for conspiracy when incompetence is the answer.

Normally both sides saying your biased is a good sign as it shows they're covering both sides but ducking around with edits and not doing your due diligence like in the Gaza doc is another matter. Not good obviously.

There all act like somehow their integrity is beyond reproach. Seeing the likes of GB news crying crocodile tears over political bias in reporting us kinda sickening.

Oh of course, and im not saying the BBC is perfect, they ran an article about Trump talking about a 3rd term recently that was embarrassingly bad, the video litwrally countered the article.

But ultimately agencies this big are going to make errors, in these 2 cases they were probably oversights, but the right use them as a left wing bias.

The BBC at least still hold some integrity, they arent Huff post where clicks, views and rage bait are more important than honesty, they try to balance it far better.

Journalism is a wildly left leaning career path, of course most journalists are going to wittingly or unwittingly lean a narrative, countering that with some right leaning decision makers makes total sense.

I also dont think right wing media holding them accountable is a bad thing necesarily, similar to media oppositiin to Trump. Wasnt it the Mail who kicked up a fuss about the Brand contraversy?

Ultimately, surprised Davie's gone, but after the 2 pretty big gaffes it shouldnt be a surprise.

I don't think anyone is defending Davie or the BBC. I'm no fan of his and couldn't give a monkey's that he's gone. It's the double standards that are an issue.

If they had done a documentary about Orban or Erdogan and spliced quotes together nobody would have batted an eyelid. It just so happens they picked the wrong guy - the most powerful person on the planet who throws tantrums and threatens tariffs when someone upsets him. He has leverage and he used it.

The one good thing to come out of it is that it should hold people in Davie's position (and in other media outlets) to higher standards although I suspect that job may be a bit of a poisoned chalice because being fair and balanced still wont stop some people gunning for you.

Persecution of Linekar is another one completely bananas.

Frankly the of scrutiny put on "left wing" politicians in interviews as opposed to "right wing" by their previous chief poltical correspondent and Sunday news program presenter has long been my gripe.

Andrew Neil for his many many faults never appeared biased when working for the BBC.

Or absolutely anyone else in the world - as it's entirely standard procedure.
In this specific instance, BBC did nothing wrong; a toddler just threw a tantrum because it's what he does.

Spliced quotes must be so much worse than biased algorithms, conspiracy theories and fake AI generated videos and images which Trump himself, Musk and other media outlets have used. Oh but that's free speech - my bad.
Nothing is as bad as the dominion/Fox News stuff. A massive news broadcaster knowingly spreading lies that Trump wanted them to spread to further cast doubt amongst people over the democratic process. I know they got fined almost $1 billion but I feel there should’ve been some severe punishment for that. Ideally they would’ve been got rid of completely.

Yeah, sadly fines and legal fees to fight all the lawsuits are just regular overheads to organisations like them even though the amounts look significant to us.

That's part of the issue for the BBC. They are meant to be unbiased, fact based reporting. Fox, GB news etc do exactly what they say on the tin and play for ratings from a base.

If the BBC want to go like Fox or Novara media, let them have at it. Just don't ask everyone to have to pay for it. We can all then scrat around for unbiased news sources or just watch ones that support our bias or beliefs.

Christ...

Now splicing is ok if my team does it.

The BBC are pretty good at this, there is no such thing as perfect, like @Welsh Exile said, even criticism is a decent sign your doing a good job.
