Just finished my The Wire rewatch, what a fantastic show

Season 5 starts a bit ropey and I was worried I was a bit burnt out on the show after watching so much, but it really finds it's feet after a handful of episodes and Bubbles' story is the cherry on top

I was looking forwards to the free to air coverage of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today.
However, there is no free coverage.

When did that happen?

I only realised today that it was fully behind a paywall, just presumed it was like the Olympics where some is free to air but if you want everything it's on a pay channel - crazy decision, are they really going to get that many additional signups for it? Do they get extra money from sponsors/advertisers if it's solely on their channel?
Because surely letting the BBC have X amount for Y sum is going to be more than their new registrations, who will likely just bin it after a month if they're only there for the athletics?

Being the misery I am, I enjoyed the first episode but found the joke starting to wear a bit thin in the 2nd.

CG’s a dead duck. No-one wants to host it and this is a watered down pound shop version of what it was. Of its time, hard to see it limping on much longer.

Just today Asher-Smith, Hudson-Smith, Johnson-Thompson, Neita and Anning have all withdrawn from the athletics. And some of those were only down for relays not the individual events.

Mental scheduling for our T&F people though as the much more prestigious European Championships begin on 10th August.

Final season of The Bear

Enjoyed it, solid ending to the show - liked the format as well, almost the whole season is over the course of one day
Love Richie, one of the best character arcs of any TV character imo

Can definitely see me rewatching it in the future, enjoyed the whole thing a lot (plus the spin off extended episode/movie) - even seasons 3-4, that a lot of people hated, I still rated

A long long time after it came out but finally started watching Friday Night Dinner. Really enjoying it so far but just wondering if they can keep the same format of repeating jokes going without it wearing thin.

I think there's a definite dip after maybe S2 or 3 but it doesn't dip far enough that it's not worth watching the whole thing - I love it, it's one of my favourite modern sitcoms

Just finished Australian version of Ghosts - far far better than the American version; and has the advantage that the original team had finished, and they could use ideas from throughout the series, and not just repeating the same characters, but spreading their characteristics around that bit more.
But...
It's such a young country they're really struggling to find A] a house that's actually falling apart through age, and B] enough diversity in the characters' history.

Also - no aborigines in the ghost cast just seems wrong, and a missed opportunity, even if it's the safer choice - I think it could have introduced a really interesting dynamic if the writers were good enough. I can only assume that they didn't think they were good enough.

You should have a look at Netflix's "Glitch", a very well put together drama based in Australia bringing back people from the past.

Just be aware there is another glitch, a Korean sci-fi series on Netflix.

You should have a look at Netflix's "Glitch", a very well put together drama based in Australia bringing back people from the past.

Just be aware there is another glitch, a Korean sci-fi series on Netflix.

True Detective S2

Doesn't hold a candle to S1 (though very few things do, tbf - probably a top 3 TV show ever, for me) but still a very solid show
Never seen Rachel McAdams in anything non-comedy/romance before, she's very very good in it - Vince Vaughn too, for that matter
