2013 6 Nations

Makes sense, though it makes you wonder why the WRU would release him for it! (Unless he had it written in his contract, but even then...)

I believe he does have an option of a sabbatical written into his contract for this very reason. So they don't really have a choice if he gets it.

I think it is something he really wants to do. Lord knows why, after the 2001 series/Healey ruined Henry's job with us.
The prospect of Howley leading us into the Six Nations is not one I want to think about.

Not sure they'd have a choice, even if he didn't have a sabbatical clause. He tells them "Release me or I resign" and what are their options then? It's not like Gatland wouldn't be able to get another job after the Lions, particularly should he win.

Besides, I'd like to believe that somewhere in rugby, there are still some who are happy to suffer slightly for a greater good, and that it doesn't have to be about them the entire time. I might be alone here, but if Lancaster was made Lions coach, I'd be cool with him missing a 6N.

Anyway, to talk about the rugby...

Very hard to say right now, everyone's much of a muchness and not in a particularly good way either. I'm tempted to go crazy and say Scotland will win it - on their day, they've got one hell of a pack, they've finally got some backs worth talking about, and they'll be able to surprise a few.

How are the fixtures working out this time round?

Scotland start with England at Twickers but then have Italy, Ireland and Wales at home. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Nations_2013#Fixtures
If they catch England with their pants down then going in to that run with some confidence....
I dunno, I can't particularly see it going off of recent results, however (as you said) they've got the players to be a good side, and all of the 6N sides have the potential to play some terrible rugby, or some great rugby.
It's anyones really, and hard to call until the squads are released or even until after the first round.

Our lot play your lot and the French in Dublin and everyone else away.

Your lot play Scotland, France and Italy at home and everyone else away.

Wales have England and Ireland at home and everyone else away.

Scotland have Ireland, Wales and Italy at home.

France have Wales and Scotland at home.

Italy have Wales Ireland and France at home.

Wales have England and Ireland at home, which makes things easier. Have to go to France though, which could go either way, depending on how PSA works out.

If Kidney got given the Lions job I'd be more than happy for him to take sabbatical or even retire from Irish rugby, I think it's for different reasons than you and fortunately Kidney hasn't a chance of coaching the Lions, I'd say he'd pick a team that got England, Scotland and Wales realizing even more why we hate him so much.

Well, f**k that then. The day has not dawned when I tip Scotland to win at Twickenham - the seas will boil over and the clouds unleash rain of blood before I do - and if they don't win their first game, then probably won't have the momentum.

Cmac - Yeah, that's quite blatantly not for the greater good. Keep your shiny-headed red-faced turnip-loving fool to yourselves now.

It'll be interesting to see what the managerial fallout is after the 6 nations. At least 3 of them will be fighting for their jobs during the tournament, namely Robinson, Saint Andre and Kidney. I reckon Saint Andre needs to come at least second to stay in his position. Robinson should be looking for Scotland to either finish 3rd or 4th and Kidney would need to win the championship, such is public opinion of him.

PSA won't be fighting for his job. We have kept incompetent coaches that get bad results for too long several times in a row, I don't see that changing.

At least if we manage to win the first four games the decider is against an in all likelihood battered Italy.

Could someone please I dunno dig up some dirt on Kidneys so we could blackmail him into retiring.
