We are lacking power to break through. If we take away the non forced errors from Kings this is a very tight match. We open the ball, they float, we try to power through we cant. I hope this is not a indicative of the season.

Great result for the Jaguars in their first hit out of the new Super Rugby season.
Plenty of tries and plenty to work on but still a good confidence building result.

it looked like the first halve was all about getting the pace. once they got there, jags where able to score some good trys. when the reserves came in, they just didn't complete. it really declined when ezcurra came in. good start for Diaz Bonilla. lezana and senatore did good too. and so did beltranou for a first season game at least, creevy and petty where good too.

Jesus christ you guys are awfully negative on the Jags. I watched that game and was largely impressed. I know you have big expectations because a lot of your national stars are in the side and should be performing but that's not always how it works. Have a bit of positivity. For the vast majority of the game the Jags dominated the Kings and played some lovely rugby and yes they let too many points go past them, but they had way more of an attacking edge and looked like an Argentinian side with their intensity. Writing off the season after one game is silly! When you break it down it was a 13 point win away from home. Take that.

I was just wondering if we are being to harsh here. I was about to ask for neutral p.o.v.
the problem is we keep on seeing the same mistakes over and over. undisciplined and silly unforsed errors. if we where facing a stronger team we would surely loose with this performance

Agreed petite. Moroni's sliding tackle is simply unacceptable. Last year we lost this game (vs kings away) due to 2 red cards and a yellow. This year we receive two (completely unnecessary) yellow cards.
Things have not changed. We got away with it this time but i am sure we won't be as lucky next time.

I see your point and maybe you are right. I would have been willing to accept that last season when we were playing against NZ teams but this one i'd like to set the bar a tad higher.
What kills me is that the potential is there.

Before 2016 season a lot of people were questioning whether we were too strong. We went from that to being the only team that lost to the sunwolves and the kings.

I dont think is harsh, not at all. Winning against one of the weakest teams playing badly is not something to be proud off. We scored 3 tries basically by non forced errors, take that out and this match was way to tight.

We could not break their lines like last year(ISA/Lavaninni/Sanchez missed a lot), we kicked badly a lot of times. We did not see an improvement from last year if they play like this is another 4/5 wins season.

I thought they played some entertaining rugby and a win in SA is always challenging, even against what is probably their weakest team. I reckon they will trouble quite a few teams this season. Discipline wasnt great, but then neither was the Kings, that knee in the back by Geldenhuys should have been a red for mine.

That's the thing, we did not come here to trouble a few teams. We came here to compete among the best. Beating SW, Kings and begging for the scraps of the big boys table ain't gonna cut it. Not even close.
UAR sold us that idea and we fans bought the kool aid. Time to bloody deliver.
And to be honest, i think we should be able to give any team except 3/4 an honest run for their money.

I know this takes time, but that is precisely why most are not asking for unreasonable goals like winning the entire thing. We are aware of our limitations, but we are also aware of our strengths and what needs to be done to mitigate those limitations. This last part is what worries me. I see recurrent problems that should be very easy to fix. Consistent lack of discipline is, or should be, unacceptable at this level.

We show displays of brilliance but then do 3 silly knock on's that cost us what should have been points in the bag. I see a plethora of missed tackles when defense used to be one of our strengths.
We do come amazing things but we also fail in some basic elementary stuff.

I see what we had in 2015 when the decision to join SR was made and what we have now and i can't say we've improved, quite the contrary.

I am negative about their performance because i want them to beat the Stormers next weekend and i am convinced we can't do so playing that way.

Adding to what Cruz_del_Sur said, I think that part of the negativity come from seeing several managment problems that undermine our chances. For instance, Jaguares not having any serious warmup match (as we had last year) and seeing several teamwork problems in our first match as a concecuence of this.

Also the UAR is blocking our european players from the Pumas in order to fill the Jaguares with our bests. But then, the Jaguares are unable to consistently compete against Super Rugby teams. Then, what can we expect from the Pumas?

I've only seen the highlights but for me the reasons to be negative as a Jaguares are:

i) 2 yellow cards at the same time in a game you are comfortably winning.
ii) shipping a lot of points to a side that has been in disarray off the park.
iii) signs the Bulls and Stormers have decided to play more ambitious rugby and are already adapting quite quickly. Away wins in SA are going to be challenging this year for the Jaguares.


But reasons to be positive.

i) maybe the Kings have improved on the park despite their off field financial troubles.
ii) you have injuries to key players who will come back in the coming weeks.
Iii) you used a completely new half back pairing and it did alright.
Iv) the Americas Rugby Chsmpionship is giving essential experience to fringe squad players and building up squad depth.
V) the Sharks lost to the lowly Reds this week so may not be in top form yet.

Personally I think the playoffs will be challenging for the Jags, due to injuries, travelling and Perez. But I think Jags fans should learn to enjoy the journey. JAguares games are never dull and that try was a beauty!

I agree it is part of our dna to be overly critical, but if you read my posts or FNS's or Coco's or Petite's it's not as if we are just ranting. We are at least trying to provide tangible evidence to support our statements. We see missed tackles and yellow cards against an opponent that made tons of unforced errors.

What is Jaguars realistic aim in Super Rugby this year Cruz?

I'd say the absolute minimum is to be on the race for a play off spot till the last round.

If i had to make a hasty generalization

Not qualifying: failure
Qualifying and losing first game after that: target met
Semis or above: bonus

Last season was a disaster imo, and my perception is that it s not just me. They (UAR, Jaguares) created this hype and they are massively under-delivering. If they don't revert this trend they will lose followers.
