God the BBC impartiality is such a joke.

Vine show on radio 2 just.
I mean ATM i'm prob leaning onto remain, but it was just cringe worthy the whole segment with 27 economic migrants (One from each EU country) living in the Uk.
I mean Jeremy Vine is an pretty poor presenter as is but my god.
Impartiality is a complex subject. For one nothing lives in vaccum seperated from bias what's important to one person is not important to another. Its why it frustrates when critics get yelled at about bias to which the reply is "yes, and?".
So the BBC's actual job is to presents current events and controversial topics in an impartial way. Which is basically impossible, so the BBC News tries to present most sides of an arguement without giving a disproptionant voice to one side or another compared to its actual weight.
It generally does an 'ok' job you only have to see enough comments in general to know that people accuse them of being anti-labor just as much as anti-tory or basically anti-my-opinion. It probably means they are hitting the right mark and most of the time they present facts and give no comment to whether they agree with something.
Jeremy Vine is not the news however but is a current affairs program which means he's still governed by impartiality (actually all programming) but its about airing opinions but not nessarially those held by the BBC. Hearing from migrants of the other 27 member nations about the EU referendum is a perfectly valid thing to debate.
FYI whilst rarely listen to Vine due to being at work he usually gets turned off when I'm driving due to some idiot spouting some nonsense on all side of the debate. Very occasionally it can be interesting.

TBH BBC is just pro gov now, what ever the gov line is they will support it.
In general I'm just tired of the lack of actual debating.
Both sides have made it a **** show, it's just like the Scottish independence referendum all over again, you just now can't have a debate with someone really without one side or the other making stupid accusations. Early on it was fine to debate but now it is getting closer to the date both sides have become desperate to gain a notable lead.
(side point the vine show is crap and akin to Daily mail a bit in terms of it is just the vocal minority of a side arguing with the other with someone in the middle podding both to get more reactions).

Government has in the last few days decided that the BBC should be reformed so that it is managed by a unitary board, where 6/14 members of it are appointed by government.
So government doesn't have a majority on the board, but it has enough members that it would take the rest of the board to unite to stop the direction the 6 want to take the BBC in.
And, as with any corporation where responsibility flows upwards, direction of the corporation flows downwards. If the board holds an overwhelmingly pro-government stance, this stance will flow all the way to the bottom of the corporation.
I love the BBC, but I would rather it not exist than see this happen. At least with other broadcasters, their biases are out in the open.
The problem with referendums. It's not about winning the argument, but rousing the masses to your side. It doesn't matter whether you mislead someone into taking your side, or honestly converting them to it... a vote's a vote.

Vine is creepy and is there to provoke argument but does it so badly! In particular cannot BEAR his cringing voice dripping with insincerity when someone has died or been seriously affected.

I am sure he is a nice man but cannot say I have enjoyed one minute of him whether on this show or his puerile exhibitionism on Strictly!

Well, to be pedantic, old Adolf was never actually elected in Austria.
Just bullied and strong armed his way past it's government and annexed the sh*t out of it. That said, that makes the rise of someone like Hofer in a country with Austria's history a bit scarier as it has genuine popular support behind it. However, realistically it's fairly obviously a protest vote against the traditional two center left / center right parties, so can't help but wonder whether or not a lot of the voters truly see what it is that they are backing.With a bit of luck, enough of the remaining 900,000 votes will be able to swing the vote towards van der Bellen and we won't have to worry about a dodgy right wing head of state in Austria.
Only silver lining if Hofer wins is that the president's role in Austria isn't as powerful as it sounds, and is more of a ceremonial figurehead despite technically being entrusted with power by the Austrian constitution.

The last legislative election was in 2013, so they may have the next one next year. The FPÖ's chances in that one look pretty good, probably even better than in the presidential election. Can anyone explain the Leave campaign almost behaving like this is general election? The last two days I've seen headlines of this our plan if we leave.
Yesterday was scrapping fuel duty (will never happen under any government), today immigration policy.
I understand this is all stuff we could do if we leave but the government decides that, I expect it to take years to fully pull out the EU. Who knows what state the government will be in by then? Except probably under a new leader.
Anyway just an annoying way to campaign as they probably won't do anything they are promising as they don't have the ability to.

Its highly complicated - I think I know which way I'm leaning, but am open to persuasion. The Leave campaign of course has the added frisson of Boris's first real tilt at becoming PM. That's a big subtext and has probably distorted the wag both campaigns are being run.
Well yeah that's true I just thought the this is what we'd do angle of Leave was interesting. Stay are pretty much doing what they were doing before.

TBH whilst I have zero idea how the Tory leadership election works I don't think Boris will win. Nor Gove or Osborne for that matter. I believe Johnson is not liked very much within the party plus they rarely go for chief backstabber as next leader see Thatcher and the rise of John Major.

It's the cheapest political point ever when a Tory exclaims that they could raise public spending with whatever money comes available from leaving the EU. What, they think we are forgetting about the ongoing austerity? :huh:
But that's besides the point. The double loss in taxation from (a) leaving the EU and (b) shutting out loads of migrants will increase the deficit and the Tories will then use that as justification for not making the change. Don't believe their BS.
Both parties are using fear tactics, but Leave are being far worse than Remain for making crap up, making spurious claims about hypotheticals (e.g. above), and generally misleading the country.
It's like hanging two criminals, one a thief, another a murderer, and saying, "They're both criminals."
