Interesting, definitely remember Adrian Barich and Fabian Francis playing when I was a kid, didn't realise they were code converts.
I still think Berrick Barnes is talented enough to play AFL

Adrian Barich played 1 trial game for the Western Reds, but never played in a 1st grade game for them.

This thread has been cold for several years, but I watched the 2022 AFL Grand Final today and just wanted to pass along the score. Now that's a blow out.

I've been watching bits of this on BT sport and trying to get to grips with it.

As with lots of sports that you're unfamiliar with, the commentators and crowd get VERY excited about things that look fairly straightforward to the untrained eye.

Like when they call a mark in the D bit and then put what looks like a pretty basic kick through the posts and everyone loses their ****? I know it's on a cricket oval so is that kick a lot further than I'm giving it credit for or is it similar to a standard rugby touch finder?

ive really got in to AFL since coming to aus

a lot of the kicks are pretty impressive, 50-60m on the run after flooding forward from D, or banana kicks from the pocket, taking huge marks in the air climbing over others, the more average goals being celebrated just come down to how popular the sport is, several of the clubs have over 100k members, 80-90k people for a mid season mid table game (ie nothing really riding on it) is not unusual

finally, the really excited fans you see behind the goal are actually a cheer squad, fans groups that get together, make banners every game for the teams to run through so they really are the hard out fans
