An extreme change?

Good grief no GG, expensive business.

I work for Her Majesty's government, so they're hardly likely to go messing their employees about....
I'm having a bit of grief with my manager at the moment and because of my outspoken views etc I am now being picked upon, any move I make is checked and documented, I don't belong to a union and to be honest I don't have the faintest of where or what to do about getting help, these things just don't form part of my experience as SA's work ettiquete is way different to the snidey office politics I've encountered here in the uk at several employers.....She actually said to me if I don't like it there I should leave??

Since you work for the gov I doubt that their policies will fail you as an employee if it comes down to the crunch, I think working for a company, if I had that option I will go for it.

BTW, anyone know a good cheap lawyer?

Yeah, but the world will only ever need more money. So are you saying that if the tories were in power none of that would have happened? People will always hate taxes and what they are spent on.

I will keep saying this to you, labour at the moment are the best of a bad bunch. Yes they have taken us into some odd wars, but their leadership has taken us through the new threat of terrorism. Could Cameron really be a leader for the whole nation? I think not.

I may not live in the 'real world' as of yet, but don't place me with all those ignorant teenagers around me.

Seriously though, when Boris Johnson is the Conservative MP involved in the highest number of scandals (most of which are caused by his overplayed buffoonery) then it's time to accept things have changed.

The smoking issue is an interesting one. While I don't smoke, I think it's totally wrong for the rights of smokers to be removed from all public areas. Most restaurants have non-smoking areas provided, but when you go to a pub, you have to anticipate a smoky atmosphere. If people don't like it they don't have to go there. It's just another example of civil liberties being checked.

Immigration is another big issue, perhaps more so in the south of the country I think. The number of foreign cultures in Northampton for one is certainly ridiculous. You can now walk through the town centre without hearing a word of English for an alarming distance. Now I don't support the BNP, but it has reached a point where you can see the case of those people that do.

The problem is hightened by the fact that foreign nationals isoltae themselves, and refuse to embrace the society they have chosen to come and live in. The problem is clear when you get third generation British Muslims (to highlight just one of the social groups) who cannot speak a word of English.

I believe that if people choose to come and live in this country, then they have to commit fully and embrace its culture. They should cooperate in order to fit into British society, rather than whichever government is in power being expect to bend over backwards to accomodate them as a seperate group of people.

Yes, people should have different beliefs, religions, backgrounds etc, but they should always make the effort to change their own actions, rather than force themselves upon those already living there.

If I were to move to France I would not expect people to treat me as a separte entity, but I would try and learn the language and accept the culture for what it is, not try and impose a totally different way of life and expect everyone else to appease you.

I won't start on political correctness, because that really ****** me off...

Not only did I join the union, I registered my interest in becoming a rep...

Brillant.

Going to bring the socialist pyramid crashing down from the top-downward.

Genius.

I don't think so.

I wouldn't do it without personal gain - I'm doing it because you are immune, by statute, from being dismissed.

And why do you need to be "immune from being dismissed". Would your behavior otherwise warrant a dismissal?

You are probably now on an MI5 blacklist which your information has been handed over to HM government. ;) Now you will be classed as a militant socialist in league with Athur Scargill :p

Not that I'm aware of!

Tomorrow I will be given the chance to join a Trade Union.

Shall I join the nasty lefties, or is there no need and should I resist their evil charms?
Depends on what industry you're getting into mate... You may not need to, but Unions can be very useful when you have a boss who likes to stand over his employees.

On the topic of Unions - How many people like unfair dismissal laws, Holiday pay, sick pay, annual leave and other benefits? Because I can guarantee that without Union's you'd probably never have heard of them. So ***** all you want, but try to pay a little respect... there's a reason Unions came about (even if many have turned corrupt).
