Black Caps asked to stand by for tri-series
02 August 2006

The Indian Cricket Board has asked New Zealand and Sri Lanka to be on standby for next month's tri-series in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, in case the West Indies pull out.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has yet to reach agreement with its players to play in the series.

"The WICB has sought time to speak to its players and give us its decision," Niranjan Shah, the Indian board's secretary, told the Cricinfo website.

"In case they say no, we have other teams who are eager to play. Australia have given their consent.

"In a week's time we should know one way or the other about West Indies' participation."

The WICB announced last night that it was meeting players' representatives.

The first such meeting took place yesterday and the two sides are expected to meet again in the next day or two.
