Bodø Barbarians was founded 8 months ago and was only 4 people on their first training. Tomorrow they will be playing the final in the Norwegian championship in Rugby League. Aspmyra is the home ground of the football club Bodø Glimt.

How is the Norwegian league compared to say Sweden's and Denmark's?

Rugby league in Norway grew quicker. They have eight clubs. They were a very dynamic organisation, who merged with the Norwegian rugby union and are now struggling.

Sweden and Denmark are growing more slowly, but possibly more surely.

In Denmark, there are two clubs. Copenhagen were founded earlier this year, with a heavy ex-pat influence (the Chairman is Australian). They certainly do not struggle for players and have reasonable crowds (having crowds for rugby in Denmark is very unusual). They play social rugby with union clubs, but have a very non-traditional growth model.

Jylland RLFC are based around Randers and are a far more native Danish club. Unlike Copenhagen, they are linked to a rugby union club (Randers) in a very co-operative arrangement. There is distrust from the Danish Rugby Union.

Swedish rugby league is more closely lined to rugby union that in Copenhagen. There are about four clubs (from none in 2012), which gives many union players the chance to have more rugby games (Skåne and Malmø) or take players who have never touched a rugby ball before (Kungsbaka).
