I know he coached taranaki for several years as well as the NZ u19 team but wondering what you all think of him as a coach

Haven't heard too much about him. However, he is a life member of Takanaki RFC and did play for the World Cup winning side of 1987. That has to count for some experience. Considering the fact that he was an All Blacks selector can benefit Canada in the future.

It can only be a good thing in my opinion. You get a guy who has experience as a proffessional coach and comes from outside the country. There is no qualified Canadian coach and I'm happy they realized this and have gone away from them. I'm also happy that they picked a guy who's got serious experience as a back and comes from a place with an attacking, free flowing mentality. It's been proven year after year, Canada has a pack that can compete internationally, the problem lies in the backs. If he can bring in some exciting creative back play to go along with our hard nosed pack, we should be in good position come 2011.

I would personally take it as a bad sign that Taranaki didn't want him...

Oh, and this was the same All Black selector who was part of the panel that preferred Ben Blair and a 20 year old Ben Atiga over Christan Cullen.
