Exeter Chiefs have today bolstered their backline options with the capture of Argentine international Ignacio Mieres.

The 23-year-old fly-half, who has previously played in France for both Perpignan and Stade Francais, has been brought in to offer another option in the number ten jersey.

Born in Buenos Aries, Mieres was on hand to see his new club narrowly go down 12-9 to London Irish in Saturday's Aviva Premiership encounter at Sandy Park.

His arrival is timely, especially as Exeter leading point-scorer Gareth Steenson hobbled out of the action following a heavy collision midway through the second half of that game. Steenson is due to be scanned shortly to determine the severity of his injury
It's an intelligent signing. Perpignan, Stade Francais and Leicester (where he was on trial) are no mugs so if all those clubs saw something in Mieres he must have something about him.

At a time when the top clubs will be losing players to international call ups, the Chiefs have added Wallabies second row Peter Kimlin, All Black tourist last year Jason Shoemark and this Puma international 10 to their roster. That's excellent squad management.
