Controversial rugby opinions

Except that you obviously can, because people do, and it's entirely subjective.
Objective measures like caps, caps as captain, wins, points scored etc etc can inform the conversation, but they can never rule it.
In a conversation about subjective opinions, people can disagree in good faith, and consider contenders that you or I would think silly.

Didn't we have this conversation about GOATs a few years ago? in specific sports and across all sports?
Ultimately, different people have different opinions, and that's okay.
Even on the internet.

Which is why I said it's pointless….and then allowed myself to get drawn in!

If you're talking entertainment and influence, Dupont's very much in the discussion. But not yet for top level attainment which is a non-negotiable part of Goatness for me.

But like I say, it's pointless and I'm not getting drawn in. 😀

Ok, i do see some trends.
I have to assume the ones dismissing Carter are trolling.

For those who consider Dupont the goat, i have to ask: how would you rate the likes of du Preez (another sh) or Bauden Barrett (non-sh)?
I always got the feeling that those two are massively underrated by NHers (and very well rounded!). Particularly du Preez. Kinda weird to present a two-time player of the year winner as someone underrated, but i do believe that to be the case. I dont think he gets the credit he deserves.

Yeah Beauden Barrett is underrated imo. Which is crazy considering he won the World player of the year twice! Some of the negative comments about him are crazy. He's a terrific player and he still somehow doesn't get the plaudits he should imo.

His peak far exceeded his norm IMO. Watching him plod around for the Blues is painful.

He was merely an impact sub before the real All Black GOATs retired.

Is that currently, or more of a career thing? I've only seen him in an ABs shirt

He's been very mid for the blues this season. AB selectors f*cked themselves over with this because last season Harry Plummer was lead ten whilst BB was on sabbatical - very very good and enough to earn his AB cap. The whole time they were talking about BB returning this year and being starting 10 for the blues and going straight back into the AB mix over Plummer. Plummer saw this and decided he'd rather cash in at Clermont but has been very good again this year whilst BB has just been shoehorned in, and lo and behold, Blues are 9th in the table - defending champions that is

My controversial opinion is that the jury is still out on whether Andy Farrell is a good coach/manager. As the Ireland team is so similar to the Leinster team I think the Leinster coaches have done all Farrell's work for him. Plus when Farrell came into the Ireland job he was able to piggyback off the good work Joe Schmidt had already done. I think it remains to be seen whether Farrell can work well outside of the Irish system.
(I would still rather have Farrell than Warren Gatland though).
