England 2024/25

Hooker is still a concern for me. George is getting older and while he can still do the job, I don't think he quite has the same impact as before. LCD is also over 30 and has fitness issues and so who knows what the situation will be in 2 years time. Also, his darts still aren't completely reliable. Dan isn't hitting the heights he did before and it really looks like Borthwick jumped the gun with him.

We really need to identify a good, reliable player who will definitely be there at the WC. Borthwick should pick a candidate and use the tour to identify who it will be going forward and let then compete with Dan to stay in the squad going forward.

It's annoying because Langdon is right there, he was very good for us, very good for Worcester, very good for Montpellier, very good for Saints
Has won the prem cup (twice), premiership and is about to go into a champions cup final
He's young enough that he could do the next two world cup cycles, but experienced enough that he doesn't need his hand held and can drop right in
Good setpiece, good in the loose

Like....why is he not being given a shot? What are the coaches seeing/not seeing?

Really don't know.

But he turns 28 over the summer and by modern standards that would be pretty old to start building an international career. Doesn't mean he can't, but if he didn't work out that doesn't give time for many other options to be explored before Aus 27 - George almost certainly won't make it and LCD will be 34 and probably on a downward curve.

That's very bleak, Dan and Blamire are poor at the setpiece and Oghre's only really had one season where he's looked good enough (though he does look comfortably the best of the three this season, so I'd like to see him tour)

I don't know. Blamire's lineout has improved a lot in the last 3 months, and as seen on saturday where falcons had scrum dominance against the sarries internationals, a strong scrummager. again I got muddled up with Dan and Langdon, and oghre hasn't quite hit the heights of last season but has been v good nonetheless

Pointless to bring him up I suppose as Slav Boomstick clearly has no time for him, (literally given his circa 8minutes on the field) but Jack Walker is still solid.

How's Simgleton playing these days?

I don't think it is 'very bleak' at all. George and Langdon is a perfectly good 2/16 combination and I'd actually see it as a good opportunity for the latter to get a proper chance that's well overdue.

Ideally, Langdon starts with George coming on to close out games as he did to good effect in the 6N.

While I accept Dan and Blamire aren't great at the lineout, they've both done well when given opportunities in the past. Jibulu or Tuipolotu are two high potential options who could go in an 'apprentice' capacity.

It's bleak if we skip over Langdon for them, imo, which is what VT was saying may happen
Blamires had a bunch of false dawns and then backed them up by looking barely Prem standard - he shouldn't be anywhere near the conversation after the season he's had

We'll wait and see if he improves at Tigers, but that's next season, not this summer

If we're going off form it should be George, Langdon, Oghre this tour
When LCD is back you lose one of George or Oghre (depending on whether they want to keep George around for leadership reasons)

Dan and Blamire need to be doing a lot more at club level, especially as Tuipulotu will likely enter the mix next season

I don't think that's what VT was saying, but OK. Take out the first three hookers from pretty much anyone's squad and 4th choice down is likely to be a decent drop off.

As it is, I hope Langdon gets the nod and replicates his Champions' Cup form. If he does that, he should end the summer as a third choice that could quickly be elevated to second choice or challenge for the number one spot when George calls it a day.

28 is late to properly start a test career but others have don3 it. Mark Wilson being the best example that springs to mind.

I like Blake a lot. Just not sure he's on Borthwick's radar? It's a bit of a Gloucester thing … same with Seb Atkinson. Neither has even had a A squad call yet.

Ew Gloucester

Jamie Blamire is only 27, his line out and work has been great for Falcons imo
Langdon has to go
Honestly I would be tempted to go with George for experience also

Kepu can play U20's they need him and he can be a leader for them.

Anyway from Tigers I'm hoping
Heyes, Ilione, JVP, OHC, Woodward, Radwan, Steward are all in the conversation by the England squad one way or another

Ilione especially is a outside call given who is about but he's got something special about him and as a bench option is very interesting

Just posted my 'Depth Chart' as a thread of it's own.

Mental considering Jamie George is 34, he's only really just slid form wise
And to be fair it was a temporary slump that came around the time his mum died and he lost the England captaincy. Not hard to see why. He ended the 6 Nations well and is in form now.

He's not going to make it to 2027 but I'd definitely be taking him to Argentina.
