English rugby clubs ‘heading for disaster’ after mounting £300m in debts

Excited

Thank god they are planning to keep in Newcastle the red bull branding would be a great pull for students and younger people
Haven't they also got a few RB facilities in Newcastle already? Hence wanting them, not say Bristol or Gloucester?

It never made much sense to me, that they'd say "we want Newcastle due to our existing links to the area" and the move to Darlington

I mean Gloucester imo is always a small market
Bristol would prob require more money and dont own the ground

In terms of potential Newcastle has such a big young market to try and tap

It's probably not a coincidence that from the start of the season just gone Red Bull were the official drinks partners of Newcastle United

I still think they are part of this as they have been playing their Women's football games at KP and it's widely known they wanted to play some of their youth team games there aswell.

To be fair between those two running the falcons, it isn't exactly going to be a costly exercise...

Their drinks' sales in the region would probably cover the entire costs of running the club each season

It's great news that the Falcons look to have had their future secured and are likely to become competitive.

But big business isn't a charity. They will do what they want, how they want, when they want. If they decide to spit you out they won't blink. Enjoy the ride, but this isn't local businessman made good, it's a purely commercial transaction.

Your spot on. But we've had Seymore a fan bankrolling us for years now and he just can't give us anymore. He's been amazing.

At least we might get to see a couple of wins a season....before they spit us out ;)

So Red Bull owns all of Newcastle falcons and a share of Leeds united?

Is there something about the northeast that is attractive to Red Bull?

Premiership to rebrand as…....drumroll……

The Prem.

Celebrating big hits, physicality and intensity (at a time when concussion's front and centre….).

More away fan ends

Encouraging more games at big stadia

And probably some fixtures in the US to look forward to.

Franchising, official end to promotion and relegation. Looking to expand from 10 teams.

More data tech in TV coverage - player heart rates, pressure in scrums etc.

They certainly seem to have taken onboard that some things need to change. Whether this is the right way remains to be seen.

Official end to promotion and relegation?
Missed that bit - time to pick a T14 team then.

ETA: Or is that you're assumption?

That's what's being reported in the Times. Likely to be formally announced imminently, maybe even at the final.

Likely to trial Thursday matches. And have an orange logo to signify "intensity".

And while totally minor points the Prem and the Champ naming just sound incredibly naff to me, but apparently they want to reflect how people speak.

Way to ruin the big day

I wonder how many teams will be promoted.. Worcester, Ealing?

Massive area to try to market to as well with the nearest club being Sale. No idea what the transport links are like but if they can get Sheffield, Leeds, etc interested and invested they could really build something

BBC has the prem story up as well.

I think if you give teams clear targets for promotion it will make lower level teams more attractive to investors.

Just find it odd that as the champ announces the promotion playoff the premiership announces the end of on the field promotion.

I think the plan for promotions, or in their words "expansion teams" is over time, not necessarily short term.

There has been talk of 12, 14 or even 16. But hopefully they won't try to run before they can walk.
