English rugby plots revolutionary changes to expand new ‘franchise-style’ Premiership

I think the Austria one is worse is that was an actual club with history where as in Germany they bought a generic amateur team.

I think they know how unpopular a complete rebrand would be in the uk. Maybe they’d incorporate their brand into the team but I’d imagine Newcastle falcons would still exist

What happened with Leipzig?

On the surface of it that would be great, but I only know redbull from the extreme sports side of their sponsorship where they're more than happy to chuck a ton of money at stuff as long as they can get some cool social media clips or YouTube videos out of it
Outside of being somewhat unpopular in German football due to them not being 51% owned by the fans as is tradition in German football after RB bought them they quickly rose up through the divisions to the Bundesliga. Nothing overly negative.

I wonder if this potential investment has anything to do with the proposed move to a franchise model. It would be a lot easier for the likes of Red Bull to justify this investment without the threat of relegation to the Championship.

I know the ringfenced franchise model isn't popular but it could lead to improved stability and more strategic growth for the league.

yeah after RB bought them they had like 4 promotions in 7 seasons...like a corporate Wrexham. would suit perfectly for franchising:
Stonex Saracens
RB Falcons
SWC chiefs
DHL Quins
Bengali Tigers
AO Sharks
MT Glaws
LH Bears
Cinch Saints
Dyson Bath

Somewhat is probably understating it. They widely disliked by most people.

I don't see Red Bull splashing much on Falcons
I suspect they and Dimes will take the approach of getting a solid team and aiming for mid level.

I hope so because Last time Dimes got involved with Worcester and they spent a **** ton on DVDM and Sutherland it didn't work out

A mid table but competitve Falcons is better than the status quo. That said, Rugby compared to Football is a relatively cheap venture. If theu put 25% in the Falcons of what they invest in Leipzeg then they'd become competitive very quickly.

Newcastle must struggle as well with the location of the town. It’s proper out out the way so offers from Newcastle are going to have to take that into account that a lot of players might not want to live that far up.
