Fiji are just so frustrating to watch, do some brilliantly good things but then just make basic, stupid errors that absolutely kill them. A good result for Wales that although, with all due respect, the next two weeks are a different level of challenge altogether.

Strange game...

Fiji came out all guns firing, but the power of Mann and Beard was just too much!!!!

Similar to Aistralia with Valetini, when the key ball carriers stop, Fiji become bang average

Agree with this, Fiji when Plan A doesn’t work are one of the most predictable sides around. They lose all their shape and structure very quickly and just end up relying on individual brilliance - the majority of the time that won’t work against competent international sides.

I think theres decades of evidence to prove this point!

Wales didnt hammer home the set peice advantage today, but most top teams will and helave the game done and dusted before 60 mins

He got through a mountain of work apparently. 13 tackles (none dominant obviously don’t be silly) but they didn’t say me how many rucks he flopped on.

didn’t mention how power puff our maul defence was, don’t talk about his discipline, didn’t talk about how he made no carries, didn’t talk about how he lost us the ball 3 or 4 times. Honestly I despair. At least they knew Mann had a **** game. Actually that’s harsh, Mann played how he always plays. Meh.

Journalism in wales is so bad. I don’t know if it’s a wales thing or a rugby thing but you never see any pointed, or even vaguely challenging, questions directed at coaches and players. It’s probably more of a rugby thing but you see it more in England. I think the wales factor does play a part as well, everyone knows everyone and no one wants to upset their mate or what have you.

I think I might start a pod with my brother and call it the Man and Beard pod. Kind of like Squide but we’ll both be drunk and swearing a lot.

I suppose at least with Beard when we have Daf back then he’s straight back on the bench as Daf is a stud. But he shouldn’t be anywhere near the bench.

Your being incredibly harsh on Beard here, he only just joined the team from The top 14 final, and he got through some work. 2 turnovers, double figure tackles, both scrum and maul went very well despite Dillon Lewis and Rhys Carre being there... Beard was decent!

Mann took a head knock early on and probably shouldnt have returned.

Youve become hyper focused, the reality is Wales are 3 from 3, first time in 3 years (RWC) so lets show some continuity in player staff, id start both Beard and Mann.

He joined a top 14 finalist team who want to ship him out after a season. How long did he play in that final?

Double figure tackles? Call it what it is. 13. Don’t try and make it sound better than it was. Hardly a mountain of work. How many did he miss? How many of those were dominant hits? I haven’t seen that stat but I’d say zero. I need to watch the game back, when were the 2 turnovers?

Set piece went well apart from when we got demolished in a catch and drive by a sub par Fiji after Mann gave away a pen. So when the scrum goes well we don’t give credit to Carre or Lewis, you know, the props, we say that’s all down to Beard now do we?

Even at our lowest I’ve backed the overwhelming majority of these players, players that aren’t even in this squad. TH aside I believe we can put out a 23 that in a couple of years can be a top 5 team but we can’t afford to carry players like Beard and Mann (especially Beard) if we want to get there. Especially when we have much better alternatives

Beard played 20 mins or so didnt he? Are Montpellier trying to offload him after 1 season? I thought he was playing regularly.

Was it 13 tackles? Thats pretty good tbf, 13 is better sounding than double figures.

Set peice went very well, i hope your not making the claim that Dillon Lewis is a top class scrummager, because we both know hes not. Lewis is a failed international prop whos been twisted up like a pretsel but anyone worth their salt.

We have nowhere near a team to challenge top 5, even in a few years, carrying players is an issue, but Mann and Beard arent those players...

Murray, Thomas, Hardy, Botham, Lewis, Elias are all much bigger issues IMO

Give them a proper set piece, maybe some depth at half back and they'd be absolutely terrifying.

You could give thos Wales team shotguns and they still wouldnt scare anyone.
They’ll all be scared of Kane James when he announces himself. Daf to come back for the autumn games as well.

Our current pack, Beard, Mann and TH aside, is decent. A back row of James, Morgan and Wainwright is up there with the best. Plumtree/Reffell off the bench and we’re cooking in that department.

Looking at the test again, I never thought would say this, but Fiji were guilty of over-playing. Fiji were profligate in attack & left a lot of points out there, however Wales deserve credit for some tenacious defence.
Given the complete paucity of success in Wales over the last 2-3 seasons, I can see why it is good to get the wins. But what it has confirmed in my mind is that Wales are no longer a top 6 side & I doubt will be.
It is to Wales credit that the passion for the game in Wales, allied with the Gats golden generation held back the off field problems at regional level & below. Bit professionalism has caught up with them now.
This was Wales biggest test of the summer & the apathy reflected in the attendance is a good reflection of where the game is now in Wales.
I think Tandy is & will continue to be good for Wales going forward, but Wales now are where Scotland were after 1999 & have a team that remind me of Italy under Parisse, that being a group of good rugby players led by one world class player in Jac.
We are not going to see them getting close to winning any 6 nations or WCs (the game is a 23 player test now). But the evidence is there for them to be highly competitive between those ranked between 7th-12th in the world & pose a challenge to top 6, maybe with an occasional ‘giant killing’. And that is not a bad reflection given where they have been.

Beard and Mann were playing. When you take them out and replace them with Daf Jenkins and Kane James we’re cooking, boy.

Cant disagree with much of this, the only caveat i would add is that Rugby and the CC stadium has a complex history, as in Cardiff fans hate it, and wont attend.

Id also add that the WRU having a player pay row in the weeks leading up to the game, and threatening to cull a region, before delaying the decision doesnt help.

Its almost like the WRU is run by hardcore English rugby fans looking tonkill the game in wales, you know what, thats not fair, i would argue the most ardent, resentful and hatefull England fans couldnt be as effective at killing the game as the WRU has been

I would say, 3 from 3 is a green shoot.... comfortable wins v Italy and Fiji i did not see mid 6N.

Fingers crossed we pull something out the bag v Argentina, who looked bang average
