First official Rugby 2005 patch

the tricolour was initially designed to incorporate a 32 county all Ireland independent nation during the War of Independence possibly in an attempt to prove to Protestants in the north that would be incorporated into such a nation and have peace with Catholics. Following the war, the island was divided into the Irish Free State and The North of Ireland. Despite this the tricolor was adopted as the official flag of the Irish Republic upon its conception.

absolutely. green of course having traditionally been the colour of liberty and was frequently used at the time by groups seeking idependace. speculation that the green, white and gold is in fact representative of catholics (green), pretestants ("orange") and the peace between them (white) is just that. speculation. no quibbles with the history though.

a. "The tricolour is meant to represent the whole of Ireland, not just the Republic, hence the Orange colour in the flag."

- northern ireland (ulster) has its own flag.

- the "orange" has nothing to do with protestants.

b. "The flag does have orange on it. Learn your facts."

- its gold

please can we never talk about flags again. please.

more like don't even talk about Irish politics/history. Trust me lads it'll all end in tears!

youre spot on. thank god ea have created a patch that avoids that whole political 'mine field' and managed to condense it into just 12 megabites. brilliant.

So has anyone worked out what this patch actually does which is meaningful? (Apologies to the Oirish out there
