French press still angry with Pumas

In the last Le Figaro there is a survey: who will win the world cup? Only 3 teams are listed, and Pumas is the missing one.
L’Equipe published a special rugby-world-cup issue, but in the 8 pages dedicated to the analysis there is no mention to Pumas at all. Not even a single line…
Well guys, I thing that the French are still very angry with the Pumas after the opening game. This is absolutely ridiculous. They could talk about the Pumas at least mentioning the possibility of revenge, but those journos are too stup… I gess.

They're saving their ink for the frontpage headline: PUMAS CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!

Well, I'm praying for Argentina. The hardest working team in world rugby. The Argentine climb is truly something to be proud of for rugby's sake.

Don't panic!
As a lot of pumas are playing on French top 14 or pro D2, we have a big respect for them. Papers are what they are, but many French specialists give you a real chance for your confrontation against SA.
For my own, i'm just disappointed about your back line players which have been so fantastic during the last top 14 season.

I would imagine there are a lot of journalists working at the world cup from France and many other countries who don't normally cover rugby but jump on the bandwagon every 4 years. It's a bit like the TV coverage really, you're used to internationals being covered in a competent way by the European Channels but then the likes of TF1, ITV and TV3 get their hands on the coverage and don't have a clue what they're doing. So I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it if I were you.

jabal, this is the real point

see on the other side what a french rugby legend, Philippe Sella, says about Pumas: "Je pense que l'Argentine est prête à créer la surprise. Mon cÅ"ur bat pour l'Argentine, il y a beaucoup de joueurs des Pumas qui jouent en France. L'Afrique du Sud a d'excellents joueurs mais mon cÅ"ur parle pour l'Argentine"

don't rate too much scrappy newspapers (talking about rugby, of course) like Le Figaro or TF1 commentators...

Very, very small.....it'll provide massive motivation for the Argentinians. I think anyone who's been watching this world cup should doff their hate to Argentina. They are the team of the tournament, only an England win can change that I'd say (because in truth England are the worst team in the last 4).

I would agree with An Tarbh.

If rugby is more and more popular in France, it is still not as popular as football for exemple.
And lots of journalists don't know much about it.
"Le figaro" for exemple is a general newspaper that is not particularly aware of sport. They were the same people that were betting on France's lost before last Saturday and who now wants to sell a bit more newspaper talking about rugby.

I can tell you that people in France that are interested in rugby see argentin players every saturday in French top 14 and that these people believe that Argentina is one of the most valuable team of this world cup.

No, no, no, no. Take back that pressure now. :ninja:
*puts a heavy bad load of pressure on RBS`s back*
*puts his hands on his ears, while humming a childish song*

We are not favourites, we are not favourites, we are the worst team in the Semis!
We are happy to be here! LALALALALA NANANANANA! I don`t hear you! I don`t hear you! :Forum58:

:bonne-de: :lol2tn:

Lol. Even Jake White said you're favourites. To the dismay of many in his camp, I dont doubt.

Nonononono! South Africa will chew us, and probably win by 50-60.
We have nothing to lose, we have nothong to lose

*leaves, while holding his hands on his ears, to bet SA by 50 odds*

NANANANANA, I don`t hear you, I don`t hear you!

I'm Argentinian and a rugby player... I think it's embarrasing how the irb and the rugby press underestimate my country. The pumas are obviously the most fighting team...Thios attitude was shown in the match against south africa for example. With Burger entering every ruck from argentina's side...

It's always difficult to predict the 3rd place play-off as the players are rarely up for it. Which side has more to prove? France might want to come out and show what they can do ball in hand, and give their fans something to cheer. Argentina may be knackered and feeling down, or they may be wanting to cement the statement they made to the world on the opening night.

Yes, other factor is France has been twice in the final so a third place isn't any special achivement but it would be best ever position for Argentina.
