Wilkinson waits for injury news
Jonny Wilkinson will see a specialist to discover the full extent of the right knee injury he picked up against Worcester.
The fly-half had to be helped from the field in the second half of the Falcons' last-gasp victory at Kingsholm.
The injury occurred after he was caught under a team-mate at the bottom of a ruck and early assessments suggest it is medial ligament damage.
"I don't think it is too serious," said Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher. "It's too early to say how bad it is.
"It's a big blow, he's a world class player in a key position."
Wilkinson's latest setback is a blow to his hopes of earning an England recall for the autumn internationals.
Since slotting over the drop goal that won the 2003 World Cup, the 27-year-old's career his been blighted by injury problems.
He was replaced by youngster Tim Visser who went on to score the match-winning try for the Falcons.
The Dutchman - who was discovered playing sevens in his home country - darted over in the last minute of the game to give the home side a 20-19 success.
Fletcher was delighted with his super sub as Newcastle bounced back after an opening weekend defeat at Northampton.
"Tim's a talented bloke," he said. He can play generally anywhere. He did well for us on the wing."
