Wilkinson waits for injury news

Jonny Wilkinson will see a specialist to discover the full extent of the right knee injury he picked up against Worcester.

The fly-half had to be helped from the field in the second half of the Falcons' last-gasp victory at Kingsholm.

The injury occurred after he was caught under a team-mate at the bottom of a ruck and early assessments suggest it is medial ligament damage.

"I don't think it is too serious," said Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher. "It's too early to say how bad it is.

"It's a big blow, he's a world class player in a key position."

Wilkinson's latest setback is a blow to his hopes of earning an England recall for the autumn internationals.

Since slotting over the drop goal that won the 2003 World Cup, the 27-year-old's career his been blighted by injury problems.

He was replaced by youngster Tim Visser who went on to score the match-winning try for the Falcons.

The Dutchman - who was discovered playing sevens in his home country - darted over in the last minute of the game to give the home side a 20-19 success.

Fletcher was delighted with his super sub as Newcastle bounced back after an opening weekend defeat at Northampton.

"Tim's a talented bloke," he said. He can play generally anywhere. He did well for us on the wing."

You'll never play for England!

He really is made of paper, 100% fit my arse!

And if you look at the halftime score, Newcastle didnt need him...

Jonny Wilkinson is the rugby version of Micheal Owen

oi, Micheal owen is Canadian. as for wilkinson, I think he's cursed, he should become a monk and go meditate on the meaning of all this.

The Micheal Owen I was refering to was the footballer... who is also Crocked and playing for Newcastle (United)....

So which guy is it who plays for england and actually comes from Canada? I'm pretyt sure it was Michael Owen.

Owen Hargreaves, plays football for England but is Canadian...

Micheal Owen is from Liverpool

He moved to Liverpool when he was a toddler but actually was born in north Wales.

Wilkinson facing two months out

Jonny Wilkinson is facing up to two months on the sidelines after tests revealed he had torn the medial ligament in his right knee.

The England World Cup hero sustained the injury in Newcastle's last-gasp victory over Worcester on Friday night.

The fly half had to be helped from the on 46 minutes after being caught under a team-mate at the bottom of a ruck.

Wilkinson has suffered an almost identical injury to his left knee and his latest setback looks sure to rule him out of England's autumn internationals.

However, writing in The Times, the 27-year-old insists he is now solely focused on making the quickest possible recovery.

"I've gone past the stage of saying: `Why me... why does it always happen?`

"I know some people will start thinking about what that means regarding the autumn international season. I guess it does not augur well but to be honest thoughts of England are miles away.

"I've started to come to terms with my situation. I accept the injuries more quickly and rather than wasting mental energy feeling frustrated I'm instead thinking: 'What can I do to cut down the rehab time'.

"The injury is exactly the same as the old knee injury except it's the right knee this time. It's a grade two partial medial ligament tear. It took me nine weeks to come back from the last one.

"I heard quite a rigorous pop [when it happened], a noise I recognised from when I'd injured my left knee.

"When I stood up I had that same loose feeling around the joint so I knew pretty much immediately what had happened.

"I knew I couldn't play on, I was just ken to get off the field and get it iced."

MCL aint to bad, i'd expect him back in about 12 though because it always seems that with Wilkos luck that there is something that pushes his injury time way back from what its supposed to be.
