people really need to grow up and understand that there are people who are different from them and they should respect instead off disrespecting them.

Top tweet is saying 'someone stole his phone' and tweeted him ...

No place for it.

agreed, very unpleasant, i wonder what the police will do.

apparently the two idiots from last November never even apologised for it, they just paid their fine and took their ban.

We're on a slippery slope at the moment, i hope the World Cup doesn't bring more controversy like this.

What an absolute *expletive deleted*.

No place for bigotry like this in any walk of life.

Not sure whether this is a "slippery slope", as mentioned above, or just that incidents of it are now being acted upon by the relevant authorities whereas before they weren't noticed.

that's a fair point actually.

I also wonder why we are actually discussing this in this day and age as the only people who get anything out of it are those who insulted Nige in the first place!!

it's interesting to see someone calling it out on the pitch rather than after in post - I know Pocock is politically motivated but he's right, things wont change if people don't speak up.

I'm also impressed with Joubert, who actually spoke to the Tah's about the allegations - and his dialogue with Pocock.

***Edit: poltically motivated is wrong, social responsible is what i mean.

What's sad about the Owen's tweet it was done by a fellow countryman. Be interesting to hear if the Brumbies boys know what player did it.

I think it's also sad that this is against a ref for not being a terrible at his job. Owens is usually an exemplary referee.

The talk about his sexuality is insulting to his professionalism. It frustrates me immensely as someone who is very pro equal rights not due to being gay myself but because I don't have the right to tell anyone that their love for someone is any less than that of mine to my wife.

Fair play to Pocock/Moore - to call it out midgame, in the "heat of battle", shows great sensibility from the two. I imagine there's a fair bit of sledging going on around the contact areas, good to see players understanding what is and isn't acceptable.

The flip side when these things happen, is that it gives the wider rugby community the chance to condemn it so homophobia doesn't become silently entrenched. Always nice to see the solidarity of rugby fans when these events occur.

Abuse of all forms is horrible. Having a go at someone because they're gay is just an easy insult to dish out. If Nigel Owens had a big nose then they probably would have just had a go at him for that.

Came to post the Pocock thing. I think that's a more newsworthy and interesting story than the Owens thing, which I'll put down to a hateful little coward using the internet to aim a spiteful comment........ While not being intelligent enough to cop that his identity was comletely available, and backtracking wildly.
On the Pocock/Moore thing, what would be the actual sanction for something like that as we speak. I understand that if it became an actual trend (which I doubt it is), WR would do something to stamp it out, but is hate speech between players in the rule book even? Also wonder if Pocock will call whoever did it out.

Is there a bringing the game into disrepute law? I'd imagine considering the bans supporters get any player caught would be facing a lengthy ban.

Sledging and joking around about a player's ability or the opposition's performance is one thing, but to bring sexual orientation into it isn't sledging - it's just bringing the game down to new lows and being a complete bigot.
