Lines out

It's being going on for a little bit, but seems to be taking the **** more and more.

When I was playing, the defending hooker had to stand 2m back from the lineout, and 2m away from the 5m line; whilst the SH had to stand 5m back from the lineout, between the 5m and 15m lines.

These days it seems that the hooker has to stand... an arm's length from his front man, whilst the SH can stand... an arm's length from his front line - and move in and out of the lineout itself as part of all the movements.
Ref will confirm who the SH is, and then they join and someone else becomes the SH - or even, doesn't drop out - which should be a penalty, unless there's been a law change I haven't picked up on.

Am I annoying myself over nothing? or are they all a bunch of cheating ******** (who'd never ever dream of cheating, as per Pat Lam) with the ref.s prioritising getting on with things over applying the laws (yet again)

There’s a lot of “gamesmanship” around the lineout, particularly in test matches. The recent addition of former International referees to national coaching staff seems to supporting the process of coaches trying to bend the laws beyond recognition.

Receiver only needs to be 2m away from lineout not five.

They can join once ball is thrown in.

But yeah you are right about the opposing hooker and the general disdain for the lineout. Honestly I think it would be easier if they just went back to the pre lifting days.

I have no idea with regards to the law clarification. But should it be a pen for each of these things then other people would be claiming the game is too stop start and they should just let them get on with things. ( not a shot at you at all, my point is dont get wound up as there will always be something else if they sort this)

I've stopped worrying about the letter of the law and just hope refs do it unbiased. There is still an art in teams playing the ref.
