Mauger signing for Hawke's Bay
17 May 2006

The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union has secured former All Blacks midfielder Nathan Mauger for this season's Air New Zealand Cup.

Mauger, who left New Zealand in 2004, played two matches for the All Blacks in 2001.

The former Canterbury and Crusaders player moved to English club Gloucester but headed to Japan last year after failing to receive a French passport which would have allowed him to remain with Gloucester.

Mauger is the older brother of All Blacks second five-eighth Aaron.

Hawke's Bay's acquisition of Mauger, 28, was tempered with confirmation centre Jason Shoemark has been ruled out of the season through injury.

stupid play on words

but this is a bit of a coup for Hawkes Bay, he was an awesome player when he was in the super 12. good luck to them :)

always good when a player comes back from overseas. hawke's bay will have a good team this year.

^^yup...but its good to see our players from the north come back and play on the ground level of our footy....im looking forward to the new npc...getting abit to tied up in the money but what isnt...hopefully it doesnt take away from the ranfurly clashes, the rivalrys or the true blue fans...and most importantly the rugby...

I guess what happened to most players who left up north was they were lured by the prospect of higher income, but then you guys must admit that the quality of rugby up north is far below the one we have down south... and after all, home is where your heart is....
