Hi,

For those users who visit our site feedback forum, you'll be aware that we're planning to upgrade the forum to Xenforo. This software allows you to give positive rep in the form of likes, but you cannot give negative rep. To allow for negative rep we'd have to use a third-party plugin - the drawback with this is that we would need to rely on said third-party for plugin updates, especially when the upcoming Xenforo version 2 is released.

Can you vote on the poll above so we can get an idea (numerically) of how people feel?

I've no idea what the negative repping system is or how it works. I think forums need some kind of disincentive towards people behaving like kids and bell-ends while hiding behind internet anonymity. But as long as you have Mods (and a clear policy on abusiveness and antisocial posting) then I don't think a scripted system is essential or worth the effort of introducing. So I'll abstain. I would add that I do like the layout and functions of the current website.

The repping system is that green or red bar(s) underneath your name. In your case it is the one green bar just above the Scotland flag.

How it works is that each poster makes posts, and then other members can rep them if they so wish. For very good posts, you'll get a positive rep, which will cause your green bar to become more green bars. If you make a poor/bad comment, members can negatively rep you too, which will decrease your green bars, and if you just have one green bar, and get neg repped, it will turn red, and if you keep on getting neg reps, your red bars will become more.

It's a pretty good way to see which poster has a good reputation and who doesn't.

I love being neg repped on the rare occasion it happens, I don't think any of my posts warrant it and it shows me people who I shouldn't bother engaging with or lead a really sad existence.
I rarely neg other users and have found myself quicker to report than to neg on occasion. Considering I don't use the function properly a change would be inconsequential to me, I would like to have it around but I don't think it's worth the apparent difficulty to do so with a third party plug in.

IMO it does a better job of highlighting "bad" posters than good. Really bad posters tend to quite quickly get a red bar. As far as I know, the green bar is just cumulative, so a poster with a shorter green bar could easily be a "better" poster in terms of positive reps per post than one with a longer bar who has made many more posts.

+1 for the negative rep brigade. It does a good job of quickly identifying "bad" posters.

Seems a relevant place to say;
@ratsapprentice change yer bloomin' avatar or I'll neg rep yo' self

I didn't even know a positive/negative rep system was in place to be honest. Where is it (On the mobile app)?

Not sure you can, had a good look and couldn't find it, I guess the app is a tapatalk derived site and that feature doesn't transfer
