So, he's now fully recovered and bounding around like nothing ever happened.

Can't say it was an easy couple of months, but on the whole he dealt with it much better than we expected.

We use a small very local vet who have always been fine. One of the kids works for a larger vet a few miles away and had mentioned the excellent results they'd had from Phovia, a light therapy that accelerates healing. We mentioned that to our vet who scoffed at the idea, so we took him to the other practice where he had the Phovia and you could see visible improvements every couple of days when he had his bandages changed. I guess the moral of this rambling is to challenge when you're not happy with what you're hearing.

Great news and definitely great advice, even from previous experience especially if you have insurance. My vets are fab but are happy to refer to a specialist dog vets a few miles away. A specialist vet can give a different diagnosis and have a better understanding of one specific animal or breed.

Yep. I guess the issue with smaller vets is less appetite for newer treatments due to time / budgets / narrower experience. The Phovia as it goes is (comparatively) cheap and doesn't involve expensive kit. We were a bit disappointed in their attitude on that.

How our future relationship with them pans out remains to be seen (we also have 4 moggies). Suspect we'll carry on with them for the regular stuff but be a bit wary if anything major crops up again.

We also have a major specialist unit about a mile down the road. Only had to use that once - emergency eye surgery on one of the cats. Petplan picked up the majority of that £3K bill.

Not doing maths, but responding differently to different other stimulus (possibly the stimulus of just those 3 questions).

He wasn't even mine, but so sad for my neighbours. They are elderly as well. Went round to theirs to give him his present as he was going to be 9 on Sunday, but then when we knocked there was no Woah and we knew something wasn't right. Our neighbour opened the door and told us he wasn't there and had gone. Had problems with his stomach and couldn't be saved so was best to put him down. They have his ashes. Sad never got to say goodbye.
