RFU to push for player eligibility change

England proposed that the next World Rugby Congress vote on a change to eligibility rule 8: allowing U20 players who participated in a World Cup or 6N between 2012 and 2017 to play for a new country, even if they were "captured" by the original one.

I read an article in Rugby World where the anonymous player stated that the current rules were generally disliked, and most of the recruited players went back to their home countries after retirement.

In 90% of the cases, the players are only able to be recruited as they are not good enough for their own country.

Thisnis correct, but 100% positive for the unions.

Foreign players may assist in success, but even if they dont they assist in marketing, and raising profile and funds for the Union involved.

Look at VDM, massive profile for a big strong marketable player who scores a few great tries per season but little else. Darcy Graham is the talent in the Scotland back 3 who is way underrated.

Unions want money, they care little to **** all about nationality, patriotism heritage or culture.

They can only milk international rugby so much before the whole thing comes tumbling down.

I'd rather lose with 15 people who identify as Welsh than 14 with one just in it for the money.

Out of all the Project and other players who have qualified through residency, in my opinion I can only think of 2 that would have been regulars for their native countries.

Bundee Aki and CJ Stander.

I don't think Duhan Van Der Merwe would have made it as a Springbok.

All it is doing is depriving genuine English/Welsh/Scottish/Irish kids of the chance to play for their countries, whilst not actually helping countries to win the major tournaments.
