just saw them wipe cardiff out with a superb 9 try extravaganza at arms park
Packed with young talent
I hope the other regions are keeping an eye on this talent

Theyre up to 3rd in the league behind money bags merthyr so will make the play offs
they won the welsh cup last year and they have superb stadium and training facilities at parc eirias colwyn bay
They get wru funding and have a large experienced team of coaches and scouts like welsh star mark jones, phil john etc

Just wondering what are the ambitons of rgc will they one day plan to become a development region or full region or will they simply try to become the dominant club in welsh rugby and act as a magnet for north walian talent?

with the massive financial improvements in welsh rugby where wru debts are down from £80 million to just £10 million now and revenues up to record levels....added to the improvements in the scarlets and ospreys accounts...could a 5th region one day become financially viable?

From what I remember, when the WRU set them up, the end aim was for them to become the 5th Welsh Region. Whether that would be a development region owned directly by the WRU, or a fully fledged privately owned / funded region I don;t know.

I think they initially were put in a couple of divisons below the Welsh Prem to see how they'd do and if they'd climb their way up which seems to have worked out well! They're hugely entertaining to watch and the WRU clearly still has a vested interest in them, especially considering they organised the warm up game against them before the Welsh Summer Tour in June.

Likely they're not quite there yet as the step up is naturally pretty big between Welsh Prem and Pro 14 / European Rugby, but I'd love to see them as a fully fledged Region in the near future as there's loads of untapped talent up North for us.

Thanks for that
They won the welsh cup last year in front of 9000 fans in cardiff
theyre 2nd or 3rd in the league
lets hope it keeps building and growing , i notice they have several sold out concerts there every summer too all may help this become more financially viable who knows
just build the player base and support base year on year , they have the facilities they have a catchment area of 750000 in all north wales
so the potnetial is there in needs patience time hard work and sewing the seeds...how many development officers do they have? I know rupert moon is up there for few years etc IF they start to really dominate the welsh semi pros only then may it become more a reality perhaps?

Yeah financially they do quite well I think, they get decent crowds for the Wales u20s games up there, as well as for the Welsh football age grade sides too and the concerts / other events bring in good money too.

Issue is even if they dominate the Welsh Prem, they'd likely need a significant amount of extra players with top level experience to make them remotely competitive in the league. Neath and Ponty have dominated the Welsh Prem over the last decade or so, and I'm not sure they'd have had much of a chance against the Pro14 sides, even at their best.
