Hi all
Not sure where exactly to post this but I'm 45 last played rugby 20 years ago. I've got a charity rugby match in August/September time. I'm slower, older, Fatter. Training has started once a week for now, basic stuff but in between I really need to improve my fitness/cardio. Would something like insanity or p90x help. Currently jogging a couple of miles x2 a week and basic squats/press ups dumbbell weight workouts in between.
Any advice

the insanity and P90x stuff is hardcore, and may be a bit over the top if you're just getting back into it... i'd personally recommend getting on a rowing machine for a good 30 minutes hard work in addition to you're jogging and what not.

Honestly, I'd say it's worth trying. It may very well be too tough but frankly, when I did Insanity it kicked the crap out of me and made me a fair bit fitter, very quickly.

What this guy said.

Do a couple of months of steadily building your core and stamina up first if it been that long ago.

Then maybe look into it.

Don't go overkill in the first month when you have 4/5 months to prepare.

Well I've tried the Insanity plyometric cardio circuit and it certainly rips a hole in you. Though I can see the benefits it will have in relation to rugby training.
