[RWC2019][Pool C] Round 2 - England vs. USA (26/09/2019)

EJ said this morning Nowell will be fit for the argie game, so you'd imagine he will on the bench for that ,at least.

If Binny can't go 11 days without playing what do they do during rest week in the 6N?

Backs are about what I expected - thought the forwards might be switched around a bit more but, realistically, with a limited squad number (reduced further by injury) there's always gonna be a number of positions we question the amount of game time they're playing

So I was wrong about Faz but right about Billy. They are going to have him play 80 minutes of every game.

My gut feel is that Curry and Ludlam are the wrong way around but I'm not fussed at all there.

Daly and Watson given another chance to score tries after dropping a few which I like.

Has Slade been hooked?

Both are natural 7s who have played nearly all their club rugby at 7 but i think Curry is probably better to cover 6 than Ludlam.

Any London types know somewhere good to watch this in Shoreditch?

Being sent to a conference at "Rich Mix" by work, which I agreed to before checking the RWC schedule so I'm going to have to take a really extended lunch break :p

Beginning to wonder (again) why we even took Nowell in the first place. Slade and Wilson got fit in time; and Mako is that important to us, that it's worth it if he's fit in time for a QF - but is Nowell enough beter than May & Watson, or at all better for that matter? Is he neough better than Coka to have been worth the gamble?

When the 31 was announced, I took is as a sign of the high esteem that Jones holds Nowell in, that and the fact that nobody had a crystal ball that predicted him needing to have his appendix removed. The case for getting rid of him would have been stronger at this point, again, maybe it's a sign of how highly Jones rates him or maybe it's stubborness / refusal to tacitly admit that he got it wrong in the first place.

I think Jones knows he can call up reserves in an instant he might even replace Knowles with a prop???

I don't really get the whole Nowell thing either especially with so many wingers who deserve a spot from the Prem. I don't think he is as much of a must have than Mako and we probably needed another SH tbh.

In terms of Slade he may have a ****le but having Watson there makes more sense anyway with Daly having played the full 80 minutes against Tonga he will likely be replaced, Watson being our better 15 than Slade. Same as Lawes and Wilson will probably replace Billy V and Curry.

you checked beer in the evening for pubs in the area with screens showing the rugby? A lot of fancy cocktail bars and gastro pubs around where you conference is but doesn’t look like pubs showing the RWC matches. Although right next door to Richmix is Brewdog pub which looks good for brewdog beers, pizza and burgers if you fancy a nibble, but not sure it has a screen showing any matches.

So many good pubs have closed in London.

And get ready for Landon prices for a pint. It ain’t cheap.

Apparently there's some sort of shipping container shopping mall(?? ******* southerners...) that's showing it and it's basically opposite, so I'm gonna hit that up I reckon (providing it's not raining, because it looks like their screen is outside)

Knew it wouldn’t be long before we had some cliche “northerner in London” craptalk from you.

It’s called Boxpark, there’s a few similar ones around, I think they’re a great idea, cheap retail space reserved for small businesses in prime locations. I don’t remember a TV screen there but guess they must have put one up specially.

I haven’t been to that one specifically but honestly if it’s like others I know you’ll find a better, more diverse selection of different food than anywhere. Prices might make a northerner moan but this is a work thing right? So expense it, and make a big song and dance about “bloody London prices” when you’re back in the office.

Hi everyone.

So 10 changes.

I thought there should be more, Billy and Curry could've done with a rest and play Wilson instead. But Eddie must have respect enough for the Yanks who did beat Scotland's reserves not long past.

Jones has said he wants a different approach to this match, as we "rope-a-doped" vs Tonga in the early stage, he wants to come out strong vs the USA, so expecting a fireworks first half.
