Hey moderators,

how about those spam messages that's filling the forum?

is there any way that us normal folk can maybe help getting rid of those scumbags a bit quicker??

I report it every time I see it, yet it takes a very long while before that message disappears.

The reason it takes so long is because the Mods can't usually be on till later in the day. I do agree that if there were some amount of flags the thread could but taken down/hidden, but as far as I know thats a software issue.

Yeah, sorry about that.
The only way for them to be taken down is manually by a mod or admin. We're trying to keep on top of it but it really just depends on whether any of us is online at that moment.
Think the forum software being updated will take care of it, which is in the pipeline!

Yeah - trust me I know. Deleting them at all hours is killn' me.

In terms of reporting them - can I ask that in the instance of spam that isn't pornographic - may you ignore it?

The reason being is that I log onto the forum probably close to 10 times a day. Sure enough of late there has been at least some spam that other mods haven't been around to delete, so I do it (I think every mod must be deleting around 10-20 threads a day, almost banned poor psychic duck by mistake because I ticked his thread instead of the one above it. Luckily stopped in time from deleting his thread). Regardless, I check the forum much more often than I do my own e-mail as most mods will - so I'm more likely to see the spam when I come on. What is happening at the moment is when I check my e-mail once every day or so - my e-mail has been spammed by reported posts, reporting spam. I'm a fan of irony, but it's killn' me.

Like I said, if you can report threads/posts which are either genuine complaints besides spam - or porn links because the sonner I get onto them the better (you know what I mean) that'd be great, but leave the spam reporting handbags, a mod should clean it up within an hour or so I'd imagin.

You should see what the forum looks like to us. It's bloody hideous.

Can't there be a rule that you need 10+ posts to be able to start threads? That would also solve other kind of problems...

Haha - in reference to our newest and most delightful thread?

That could be a good solution.

Using a captcha system for signing up could also stop the bots. I'm not a huge fan of captcha, as half the time I can't read the blasted things, but they have become commonplace whilst creating an account for most places on the internet nowadays.

I believe that is Olyy's solution. I hate them myself as I can never read them, but should be good until the software is updated.

Yeah, I put one on this morning.
We've had one get through so far (much better than the 10+ between 9am and 10am), though that could've been here already and just not posted (I have a feeling the spam software registers several accounts then posts periodically).
Should know over the next few hours-to-a-day whether or no the captcha is helping or not.

Just deleted another one. In my mind I like to think it's someone out there posting these nonescense threads - it makes me feel like everyone I delete is a bit of his life I've wasted. Sadly it's just not the case.

Aye, very frustrating.

I've made a note of the user name of the one you've just got, so if we get another today I can check the newly registered users list and see if they registered after them to see whether they got through the captcha or not (not sure whether the one you just deleted was already registered or not by the time I put it on).

Man those bots are busy!!

@Nickdnz. I have decided to no longer report them, to keep your e-mail a bit neater and cleaner.

Haha, thanks man. Like I said - use the feature if you see something which really need to be removed ergently as it could cause offence and the warning may get a mod onto it sooner. Otherwise however - chances are it'll be seen before we check the e-mails.

We see ghosts of the spam threads, so general rugby is unreadable to us. We have decent coverage globally, so spam threads shouldn't be up for more than maybe two or three hours.
Thanks for your help and understanding, we are doing our best to handle this with what we have.
