The greatest of the pro era?

beyonce.jpg

O'ALL TIME!

My Team:

1. Matt Dunning
2. Yoshimitsu Yasue
3. Phil Vickery
4. Matt Banahan
5. Peter de Villiers (because Ballet is also a contact sport, ja?)
6. Ian Balshaw (ask Brian Moore why)
7. Chauncey O'Toole (plays for Canada, greatest flanker ever, haven't heard of him? Your own loss.)
8. Andy Powell

9. Mauro Bergomasco
10. Danny Cipriani (honourable mention to ROG and Dan Parks)

11. Tom Varndell (coz Teh Mite will be upset otherwise)
12. Gavin Henson
13. Stephen Donald (had to fit him in somewhere)
14. Tommy Bowe*
15. Hugo Southwell (perhaps the greatest player in history regardless of position?)

I think you'll find it hard to find a place to starting argueing with that....beeatch.

*I know he probably isn't good enough for this list but he's where I always feel he should be...from memories of his good ole days. Total Leg though.

Lets not forget Keith Wood always excelled and his all-round game was not just world-class but always consistent.

Keith Wood actually does get in as a hooker. I completely forgot about him, absolutely world class even when Ireland were **** back in the 90s.

6. Jerry Collins (Richard Hill...yeah right)

Collins better then Hill???? You must be joking.

It's only testament that the holy trinity isn't on the backrow and McCaw is in instead of Back.

I have to agree here. Collins is good but even with one leg God/the king of kings/HRH/Richard Hill would make mincemeat of anyone who stood before him and he did too. Even while hopping along in 2007/8 he showed the world by Marty Hollah will never be an All Black and he cowed his opposite number in Munster in the HEC Semi-Final.

Absolutely phenominal guy. If you don't know who God is, you obviously weren't looking hard enough.

Why isn't he in our hall of fame?!

Hmm, I guess it depends what quality you look for in your blindside flanker. Richard Hill was a hard man, but Collins delivered to every hard man he came up against and all ways came off on top. Shaulk Burger, Sebastion Chabal and let's not forget Collin Charvis. What I like in a blind side is a person who is feared on the field, and I would argue Collins is one of the most intimidating players in history...if their nick-name as god makes them a great player, then Ben Blair must be the greatest wing/fullback/what ever else he feels like playing, of all time.
As I said Richard Hill was good, but I would rather have Collins. *waits or people to bite my head off*

I can't believe you guys put Dan Carter ahead of Wilkinson. If both are in top form, i think it's a no brainer...

Wilkinson in prime = World Cup victory

Carter in Prime = Uh, choke?

Also, Schalk Burger is a dumbass, and Collins piddled on the field. Both are infractions against being in a pro team.

Seeing as there are not many French players that were mentioned, Peter de Villiers(French prop) I feel would be very close to getting onto that list.

Over Carl Hayman anyday.

French champion in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2007.

69 Caps.

4 6N victories including 2 Grand Slams (2002, 2004).

Played in 2 RWC.

Very impressive stats those, didn't know all of that but what I do know is that he was a very strong scrummager.

As an Irishman I have to say Richard Hill is probably one of the only English players I have really respected.

Personally I wouldnt have Jerry Collins anywhere near the list, and certainly not in there ahead of Hill.

Matfield can not go in ahead of Eales. Wood should probably be in there ahead of Smit and I'm still racking my brains trying to identify a French player to fit in there. Galthie anybody?

I think its unfair to pin a team failure or team accolade on a single player. Going by that logic their would be no NZers in the team. no Irish, no Welsh no Australians since 1999.

Wilkinson had no where near the attacking game Carter has. Carter in his prime = single handed slaughter of the lions.

Carter wasn't even on the field to choke, he lead NZ to a lead at halftime and was pulled, presumably to be rested 50 mins in.

I think there are too many Kiwis in the team, but Carter is not the one to take out.

Well then, here's mine:

1. Os du Randt (Duh)

2. John Smit (Possible the greatest captain the game has ever seen.)

3.Carl Hayman (Duh)

4.John Eales (Brilliant player, character, and holy crap, a goal kicker!)

5. Victor Matfield (Best line-out specialist in rugby history)

6. Richard Hill (Hardest worker on-field i had ever seen. Not the flashiest, but definitely the gutsiest)

7. Richie McCaw (Duh)

8. Zinzan Brooke (Class player, who had it all. One of the few 'complete' players)

9. George Gregan (*******, but deserves the spot)

10. Jonny Wilkinson (Still in my view, the best 10 ever to play)

11. Jonah Lomu (The only man to ever truly 'revolutionize' the sport)

12. Tim Horan (Dangerous every time he touched the ball. EVERY TIME! Besides, Umanga is highly overrated)

13. Brian O'Driscol (The magician!)

14. Bryan Habana (The biggest sensation since Lomu. Every opponent fan cringes when he touches the ball.)

15. Christian Cullen (Talent, speed and vision second to none. One of the most exciting players to watch!)

... I cant think of a Frenchie...

What he said. Although Keith Wood, Johnson, vd Westhuizen, Carter, Larkham, Umaga, Roff, Latham could get in and I would easily be persuaded.

Stringer and Ronan O'Gara (if that's ROG)? Pull the other one.

15. Cullen
14. Caucaunibuca
13. O'Driscoll
12. Horan
11. Lomu
10. Carter
9. Gregan
8. Dallaglio
7. McCaw
6. Hill
5. Matfield
4. Johnson
3. Hayman
2. Ibanez
1. du Randt

Randwick you're an idiot. Given that Hill/Back/ Dallaglio performed as a back row up until 2003, and Collins and McCaw had their heydays AFTER then, I hardly think head-to-head is relevant. What's more, Hill and Dallaglio were key members of a team that was better than ANYONE who was playing against them at the time. So the NZ back row containing Collins and McCaw WAS inferior at that time.

Calm down gingergenius were all here to share our views on rugby. You obviously like Hill and Back I like them too but I see them inferior to Collins and McCaw and vice versa, nothing wrong with our opinions cos they're honest. Nothing to get angry about its a mere opinion lol.

Yes I do remember now, Hill and Back worked hard in those two 2003 tests along with Wilkinson to put together Englands 2 wins against us 15-13 and 31-28 were the scores. For a northren hemisphere side to beat us back to back is out of the norm (there may be a few others but cant think of one at the moment) and so that was an achievement.

Hill and Back are good but I like Collins and McCaw (honestly these guys WIN A LOT).
In 2003 Hill and Back won 2 games against the All Blacks and brought Englands telly of victories against us to 6. Yes 6, ever since England invented rugby they've managed to beat us 6 times after all these years. FACT.

Neil and Black put together 2 wins against us and win the world cup and now they are the GREATEST of the pro era???.. Its your opinion and thats allgood but theres not much of a legacy for them here in NZ, they wernt around for long in the international scene and if they were around ages ago why wasnt England doing well ages agoo. McCaws still playing international, yous will see him and the ABs soon.

Yeah but if it is his opinion at least repect it. Not one of your posts have you accepted their opinion and then put forward your own and then react badly when they disagree.
