The technology thread

Anyone got a smart watch? My research so far has led me to the Huawei GT4. Down to £100 on Amazon and battery life looks impressive (up to 2 weeks). There are other phones that do more but will need charging every day or two. So it's basically a trade off between battery life and level of use. Health monitoring looks good too.

Think the Huawei is a good compromise as I can I get notifications, answer calls but let my phone do the heavy lifting when it comes to answering messages and emails etc

No NFC payments but I can live with that and continue using my phone or cards. There is talk of payments being possible via something called curve.

I can't see any device that you're using as a proxy for your phone last two weeks on one charge.

Two weeks is best case with minimal to no use other than just being a watch with certain features disabled. I think moderate usage like getting notifications and you're looking at around a week between charges. It's not meant to replace your phone but supplement it.

I’ve got a Garmin as I don’t have the need for the smartphone side of things.

I bought one that had music and contactless payment functionality and I use neither as they’re not very good.

£100 is a decent price if it does all those things, there’s got to be a few decent reviews on YouTube for it.

The YT reviews look good as do the ones on Amazon. Seems like there is no perfect watch as they all have limitations. Just need to pick one that ticks the right boxes.

Apple Watch 9. But only if you're in the Apple ecosystem which it doesn't sound like
You are. Does what I want but battery life is not great especially as I use it to track fitness. Always put it on charge every night though.

Contactless payments is convenient for buying in shops, restaurants but there's an issue on TfL especially on tube as I found it doesn't pick up the touch in. iPhone contactless is fine though.

Also don’t know about other smart watches but i got a case for my current one. Smashed the screen on my old one. That is one thing about any apple product: break the screen outside the
Warranty period or no Apple care and it means getting another one. So always get a case.

I've got a pixel watch (whatever the latest one is - 3?)

I only went for it because I've got a pixel phone and previously had a Fitbit and wanted to keep fitness/sleep tracking with that app

I like it but the extent of the smart part of it that I use is fitness/sleep tracking - I check the odd notification on it but my phone is rarely out of arms reach so use that for anything else

Battery life isn't amazing (about two days) but it's quick charging is very good so I just chuck it on to charge when I go for a shower and it's always got more than enough juice

If I had an iPhone I'd have gotten an apple watch, they seem to be the best general smartwatch (i.e. not a Garmin etc.) out there from what I've seen

The Mrs had issues with her Huawei due to connection issues etc. Plus lack of Google access etc. Not sure if it's improved.

Both on Garmin vivoactive 5's now from Venu SQ 2's. Great watch but mainly use the GPS for hiking and dog walks. Battery life's decent but like most Garmins more a sports watch than life style.

Well this is hilarious, Musk's own AI chatbot basically says Musk is full of bullshit. Musk has of course now said he will once again "fix" the chatbot for daring to give the wrong answer.
