Looking at this thread makes me wonder if the SH'ers watch NH rugby...ever.
[/b]
You're not the only one, Speedy. It seems to me that a lot of SH fans are ignorant and unnecessarily dismissive of the northern game. And people wonder why NZ haven't won the world cup for 20 years...

Ummm NZ haven't won the world cup for quite a while because it has been the other two Tri-Nations countries who have dominated apart from 2003.

You (NH) = 0
SH = 1

I agree that many SH fans are ignorant and dismissive of the northern game, but your reasoning there has made absolutely no sense for your argument.

Not ignorant, simply bored  . If you lived down here and watched the Super 14 and Tri nations, its a damn good bet you wouldnt care too much for European rugby. It's simply not as exciting. No doubt, it would be if we lived up there and actually had some sort of association with the rugby scene in Europe, but we don't, and there are perfectly good rugby competitions running all year round (nearly) in both NZ and SA that are enough to satisfy most SH folks. This isn't to say we are all dismissive of the NH game, I'm interested in watching the odd game, but yet again the issue of not having others to associate with who can share my already faltering interest in the NH game prevents me from becoming an avid NH rugby fan.

Anyway, there isn't a lot of freakish talent in Europe at the moment is there? :P

Failed. I have no problems with people not watching NH rugby, but in a thread like this, people should be less retarded by not putting Dan Parks, David Skrela and Jonny Wilkinson as the NH's representation in a top 10 list when they have no idea of NH talent.
And sorry, that does make you ignorant.

Arent we getting all high and mighty then! I could call you ignorant for being Welsh, but i won't. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and that was mine

I wasn't directing that at you, but all the SH posters here who have included Wilko, Skrela and Parks in their top10. <_< Besides, not watching NH rugby and then putting one of those players into a list isn't an opinion FYI. I don't watch the Super 14, but you don't see me putting Francois Steyn in the top 10 fly-halves list. High and Mighty? Lulz.

We're not having a go because of nationalities or geographical situation, well I'm not anyway. :P I'm talking about the general rugbying knowledge that people hold. I'm not having a dig at you personally as you seem a well-balanced, knowledgable fan; but it just seems that the SH simply disregards our rugby labelling it boring or one-dimensional and when we (NH) send our thirds down to take a 60-point bashing it is taken that we are useless. However when it comes to notable global tournaments you seem to come up short, be it v England in finals or France in the quarters and semis. ;)
You still smash the Lions though, and the franchise is looking increasingly redundant in professional rugby. We'll see next summer if it's all still worth it.

I do recall a former regular member (who despite being a proud American, openly thought was Irish or Welsh depending on which way the wind was blowing) once proudly announcing "the Guinness Premiership is boring, rubbish 10-man rugby" for months on end, much to the displeasure of various members on this esteemed board, only to admit a short while later that he's never watched a GP match in his life.

Oh, the lulz that made.

Yeah fair point, and i wasnt having a go at you. Agreed, Wilkinson certainly hasnt done anything since the world cup where he was was consistent and had a few good performances(cue the 2 seperate "top flyhalves" lists i compiled earlier in the thread). As for Parks and Skrela, i Can't comment because i don't watch enough of the NH stuff to make an accurate judgement.

Fair assesment of the situation. I think alot of it is playful jesting, but there are some fools in all countries who have an opinion on everything and knowledge of nothing

I think Cyril or Ospreylia needs to realise that the Southern Hemisphere comprises of more nations in the rugby world than just New Zealand.

I do. Would you like to highlight what you think the discrepancies in my posts are... Nicely? :P

Well now that you know that this is the case, I won't have any highlighting to do ;)

Not sure if these are in order, but anyone who has O'Gara or Wilkinson in the top 5 need their heads read.

I couldn't agree more. Whenever I see them that high up in the list, especially Wilkinson, I die a little inside. :(

Agreed. It takes more than a couple of great games against France Z's though. Let's see where he is in a year's time.

I see RO'G in the same way as Charlie Hodgson, just with more class and international nouse. Going forward, behind a strong bunch of forwards he is excellent, but when he gets it up him and is pressurised he shats his bean and crumbles.
Also still can't get over parts of the English media who called Hodgson the best fly half on that tour. Whereas Wilkinson and Jones were playing the ABs and he Maoris he was up against Bay of Plenty and Manawatu. (No offence to any supporters intended).
