Wow - The WRU really f***ed over Leinster there.

Huh?
Lima originally signed for Leinster - I guess with the WRU bolloxing up the Celtic league they had to nullify his contract. [/b]
Oh, I understand now. Cheers. Their loss, Bristol's gain.

Any sevens viewers know much about the other guy - David Lemi. He is top try scorer in sevens so must be ok, but then again Henry Paul springs into mind..

not sure if these have been shared but Llanelli seems to have been busy
the artilce is mainly about afeaki. Lemi is the real deal he carves up most in the sevens.

Ex-Hurricane Afeaki moves to Wales

15.07.05 1.00pm

New Llanelli rugby recruit Inoke Afeaki says he is living out a dream with his move to Stradey Park.

The Tongan test captain is settling into his new life in Wales following his move from Japanese club Secom on a two-year deal.

Having spent his career so far in Japan and New Zealand, it's a big change of direction for the 32-year-old lock -- but one he is relishing.

"I wanted to come out here and have a stab at European rugby," he told the Western Mail.

"This is a different culture and, if you want to experience Welsh culture, there is nowhere better than Llanelli.

"Competition for places within the squad is tough, and that's a good thing. There are a lot of guys pushing for a start and that's what pushes you that little bit further."

Born in Tofoa, Afeaki moved to New Zealand at the age of three and was brought up in Wellington, where he learned his rugby trade before playing several seasons with the Ricoh club in Japan.

He returned to New Zealand in 1998 to play for Wellington in the NPC and was then called up by the Hurricanes for the Super 12, where he played four seasons, ahead of a move back to Japan.

Afeaki, who has 18 caps for Tonga and three for the Pacific Islanders, is one of a batch of new faces at Llanelli.

Other recruits include South African Hottie Louw, US Eagle Mike Hercus, New Zealander Regan King, Englishman Clive Stuart-Smith, as well as Welsh internationals Alix Popham and Dafydd James.

Never heard anything about Lima signing for Leinster, he had his short term contract with Munster but was released without playing. Could be wrong but I don't think he had signed for us.

Venter signs for Connacht
15 Jul 2005

Connacht have completed the signing of versatile Natal Sharks front rower Frik Venter ahead of the new season.

Connacht manager Tim Allnutt expects the 23-year-old to be a good addition to his squad following the departure of Peter Bracken to Wasps last month.

``Frik's preferred position is loosehead, but he can also play both sides in the front row and as a hooker,'' admitted Allnutt. ``He is a good ball carrier and will give us a lot of options for the coming season.''

Venter played his first ever Currie Cup match last month, helping the Sharks to a 37-23 defeat of the Boland Cavaliers at the ABSA Stadium[/b]

Well I don't know these players but I was told that Ramiro Pez played very well for Italy when they defeated Argentina in Argentina before going to Australia.

Yeah, Pez is class, he just never got a chance for Leicester
We had him for the second half of last season and he was arse. If, as a 10, you can't get in a team ahead of Chris Malone (once described in the national press as having all the pace of an ageing wombat), you should realise that something is wrong.

Ageing wombat lol! U guys at Bath gotta hav a lot of faith in Dunne as if he backfires, ur stuck with the reliable drop-goals of Malone for yet another season.

Phil Christophers isn't a bad player, a bit slight but very agile. Got a few Eng caps a few yrs bac.

If Dunne backfires, Connolly (being the champagne rugby brain that he is) will probably stick Malone back in, but Barkley's said on numerous occasions that he prefers playing 10 instead of 12. If we can keep our backline fit enough, we should be able to change things about a bit.

If not, we'll have Malone chipping away.

Glory days, how we miss thee...

We'll be struggling for class in the backs even more now as Robbie Fleck has had to retire thru injury.

Fleckie

It's a weird one. When he first got injured, they said 2-4 weeks, then he just never came back. He signed a new two year deal in February and started pre-season, and now calls it a day.

The thing is, there's practically zero chance of getting a replacement from the NH, as everyone's already started to prepare for the coming season, so in the unlikely event that Brownsword puts his hand in his pocket, we'll have to look to the Currie Cup or NPC.
