Transfers Rumours

Yeah, I've heard that. He'd need to get out of his contract, which runs until the end of the 2012/13 season, I believe.
Would no doubt be a loss for the Ospreys, but when you look at young players like Walker, Prydie and possibly Luke Morgan, there are some potentially great replacements.

Ospreys would be better off playing him at 13 right now over Bishop. Could work out well for Ireland, with O'Driscoll out for a bit as well. He has been tried at 13 occasionally, but never long enough to adjust.

Last I heard (and it might be wrong) is that the last year of his contract is optional, so could be off at the end of this one.

Ireland do have a lot of wingers and no proven outside centre after BOD its true, but imo Ireland would be better off trying a new player and looking to the future rather than rotating through the same 4 or so players endlessly. Particularly as there's no gurantee he would adjust given time but he is a very good wing... certainly would be a big loss for the Ospreys its true.

So Lamont R has signed at Glasgow, hopefully primarily for wing, as young Hogg has done very well, and certainlu doesn't deserve to be dropped. Apart from Weir probably our best performing back.

You've got to look at who would need him as well
I was thinking Wasps, but they're pretty settled with Wade/Varndell

Sarries have Strettle (though I don't rate him) and Short (who I really rate) - I don't think he'd go anywhere where he wasn't guaranteed a load of rugby

Well we may need a few players if/when we get promoted.......

I wish

Who are his mates there?

I always thought he'd be at Saints as long as Hartley/Foden were, but who knows

Best friend is Joel Tomkins, and he is old team mates with Andy Farrell.

You never know Saints might keep him and it is being talked up to get him a better deal, and given that Foden has signed on again.

Ashton would be a loss but not the end of the world. I would be more gutted if Foden went.

Who needs an Ashton when you can unleash the Diggin

Despite Farrell leaving Wigan the year before Ashton made his debut :p

Ah, the hobbit!
Have to say, I do rate him a bit higher than Ashton as an all round player (taking in to account defence and rucking etc. not just finishing abilities)

Artemyev and Elliot are going to be great players with some more game time, so, as you said, losing Ashton won't be the end of the world

Yeah I was not sure on the Farrell part to be honest, but that is being blamed on the BBC. I get your point as in not team mates on the same pitch.
I was assuming he knew him via the fact he was brought through in the youth programme, some sucess with Wigan u18's etc.

As for the Hobbit, yeah he get's some stick but he makes me laugh and always seems to score when I see him play.

I think it'd be a mistake for Ashton to leave Northampton - who else would be as good as Foden in supporting Ashton in broken field running?

It is not Saints choice. His contract runs out at the end of the season, we can offer him the world but if he wants to go he will.

As for supporting players, there are a number who are as good as Ashton at running support and given more game time are overall better rugby players.

Linking to what Olyy said Artemyev and Elliot are going to be great players with some more game time,
