Marnus van der Merwe to Munster rumors coming up again and being reported in a few places. By all accounts he has turned down another contract with Scarlet and wants to come here. A proper dynamic hooker and a good tight head could genuinely elevate us massively. I think we're getting pretty strong in other areas.

With Martin going to Sarries - might Sodeke be looking for a new home? Would he be interested in a straight swap?
Might have to fight Bath and Newcastle though - Bath with only 3 senior locks (and one of them, very senior) - Newcastle on the market for any highly rated youngsters.

Might Sarries be having a bit of a clear out? supposedly Tomos Williams is just waiting an official announcement, and favourites to secure Jac Morgan as well. That'd be 3 significant salaries to find space* for

* hopefully, I don't mean space as in m2

We're in a right difficult position.

I keep saying on the falcons forum, we "could" still go down. Relegation is in place...theres a play off and the team who wins the championship has to have the facilities to be able to come up.

But worst case scenario we could be signing all these players in secret, only for them to play in the champs. That wont please a few!

Sanderson airing his laundry in public is not a good look IMO

"I've got the money for four or five world-class international players burning a hole in my pocket"*
But
"Wanting to paid more than current, in order to have the privilege of leaving a city he loves and has made home, in order to move to Manchester"* is "taking the piss"**

* Paraphrased
**Direct quote

He may have the money for 4-5 world class players (doubtful, unless he means the usual "world class = good club player"), but unless they're Manchester born and bred, he won't get them if he's not willing to offer them the money to come to Sale

Yeah he needs media training and calling out CCS is mental

I'm a bit more sanguine, although he could’ve been more discreet.

Possibly depends on whether he felt he’d been messed around or been taken for an idiot. While players and agents routinely use the media for leverage I don’t mind a bit of fighting fire with fire. And I admire a stance of not being held to ransom.

Suspect Marchant will be on a reasonable whack so I doubt he’s penny pinching. And over time a few more, actually virtually all, clubs might have avoided bankrupting themselves by saying “no” to players more often.

Besides, style and dignity are overrated. 😀

I think Newcastle need a good 35-40 new signings.
You take what's available on the market, and it's been known for a year or two that Situtu wants to come to England

True

I guess all depends on their overall budget and planned use of it

But not I sure I agree you take what’s available on the market. You never know who can become available

Arguably not taking what is on the market was what set up Bath for their wins, by keeping a good amount in reserve for the right players and getting lucky with Irish, Worcester and Wasps going

But Bath didn't need an entire new team.

I was more referring to #8 not being a priority though. They currently have 0 #8s for next season. They need new players literally everywhere , so if any player of the right quality wants to join, you take them. Worrying about being the right character or right position can come when you're slotting them into an existing team and structure

I thought, and said in pre-season that their primary targets ought to be any France-based Englishmen who might want to return: Marchant, Kpoku, JacquesW, Ribbans, Sinkler etc

ETA: I'd also argue that a club in Newcastle's position wants to get it's big signing(s) in nice and early. Once other players see 1-3 big names joining, they'll be much less reticent about committing themselves to a club on a redemption arc, rather than worrying about a false dawn.
A statement of "We're serious about this"

Reports stating he is not their marquee signing for next season, so it makes you wonder whi else could be on their way.
Agree we require a lot of new players but this will be done over 2 - 3 years.
I attended the season ticket fan forum and it was said our goals are within 3- 4 years challenging for the League and Europe with 5 years.
Ive heard these claims before from dean Richards 5 year plans etc, but the difference now we have the financial clout to achieve it.
