5-3-1 on the core lifts with more dynamic/explosive supersets to fill out the session. I'll throw a more hypertrophy focused week in every third or fourth week from now on (only back two weeks). Should be a while before a reload is required.
Love the 531. I just finished up a 3 month 531 beefcake. Really enjoyed it was a change of pace.

Running building the monolith another 531 variation. Seeing some decent size gains and it's good to be running something intense again. Squat is coming back well with doing so much of it everything else is a bit ehhh. First deadlift session this week that actually felt good and from experience the weight should come back quickly now.

Pity it's starting the same time as the Lions but the Strongman Classic is on today starting at 5. Great list of competitors with the return of Big Loz and the last two WSM. Some interesting events as well, probably going to see two WRs the nearly guaranteed one of Mark Felix chipping his own record on the Hercules Hold and the more interesting possibility of Iron Biby breaking the axle press. There's a one off live stream on Facebook or you can sign up for a membership at Official Strongman, Giant's Live have confirmed it will be uploaded after.

https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=K2SiE5ohnzk

Skip to about 2:50 in to see the absolute size of Iron Biby at the moment.

Iron Biby putting on a great show.
I'm glad he is
His gym lifts are insane but there's always been the question mark of....are those plates legit? They're such a mishmash of weird shapes and sizes

He needed a coming out party to prove himself at the top level in a proper comp

Deadlift WR attempts this weekend,
5PM UK time

Steps are:
400-425-455-475-505

I doubt anyone takes it, tbh, but there's plenty of really strong pullers out there atm
Be interesting to see if people jump from 455 --> 505,
Think there's a few who'd do 475, but if they're not taking part in the rest of the weekend's strongman comp then they might as well go all out for the WR, as that's what'll net you the cash

Unless anyone has been training on secret for this, I’ve not seen any of the strongmen setting themselves up for a bee WR on deadlift.

I’m so excited as I’ve got Arnold’s classic and giants live booked in the next few months.

There's quite a few less known guys who are aiming specifically for it,

Guys who a regularly competing in strongman comps (i.e. the Stoltmans etc.) won't come anywhere close - breaking the record requires too much specialised training to be competitive in all other aspects of Strongman while also training for that

Ivan Makarov and Pavlo Nakonechnyy are pulling big numbers in training and are tipped to get close (Big Loz reckons they're capable of 475, if they go for it - think they've both hit that in training)
Asko Karu was favourite to break the record but had to pull out (believe he's pulled over 480 in training)

Edit: Didn't realise how bad Karu's injury is - had just heard that he had to pull out. He's cracked several vertebrate, in constant pain and can't lift any weight at all!
Hope he can come back from it, but at the very least hope he can heal enough to it doesn't hamper the rest of his day-to-day life!

Yeah I thought Karu had the best shot, real pity he had to pull out.

Think Pavlo is the only one with any realistic chance. Makarov might break the floor but can't see him locking out.

Both have announced they're competing in the full comp now as well.

And it looks like Makarov's jumps will be 425-475-505.

Think that makes the record being broken even less likely, now, as well - both have eyes on qualifying for WSM so won't want to blow their sphincters out on 505 and have to pull out of the rest of the comp

Nice of Giant’s Live to show a video of the second heaviest deadlift ever.

Would be so weird if other sports operated in the same way around recognizing records across their own sport.

Makarov with a 475kg is decent returns,
The 501 will fall sooner rather than later, it looks like

It's mad how strong the deadlift field is atm - the amount of guys pulling 453.5kg in comp is crazy. It wasn't a million years ago that that would've been a world record lift
Great to see Bish break the 1000lb barrier - always been a great deadlifter for reps, would be interested to see what his true max would be if he focused on it (though I doubt he will anytime soon - too focused on strongman atm)

Edit:
Seeing this I reckon Makarov gets it next cycle (peaking/PED),
505 to the knees is no joke

My guess would be that the record falls a year from now - nobody's going to attempt a record breaking weight without a cash incentive. Part of the reason it didn't go this time is the mad rush that everyone has been in to prepare for this contest. With a year to prepare, it's within the capabilities of multiple competitors if they want it IMO. It might fall earlier if the Dubai guys stick some money up, particularly as it seems hard for the Iranian guys to compete anywhere these days, but this could end up full of poorly prepared athletes as well.

Just as mind blowing as the number of 1000lbs lifts was everyone hitting 400kg for the opener to me. I remember when this was a big deal in strongman (particularly when Kevin Nee did it), now it's just an opener. Shout out to Gerrit Badenhorst - his 410kg pull in 1995 on a stiff bar with normal straps was comfortable. With modern "training methods" and nutrition, he wouldn't be far away these days.

How good did Pavlo Nakonechnyy look? I'm not usually one for a hot take, but his potential looks incredible. Smoking the farmers straight after a deadlift WR attempt was impressive. With better technique he'd surely have won that event and improved on his placing in the others. He moves well, is powerful and has a frame to hang plenty of mass off. Unless he has major weaknesses that weren't apparent, I'd put him odds on for a world ***le if he sticks with it.

Just heard that Pavlo Nakonechnyy landed multiple blows on Oleksii Novikov back stage on Saturday and had to be dragged off by three other strongmen (Big Loz's latest video). Sounds like he might have ended his own career almost before it's started.

******* hell. They've the same coach but there was speculation they had beef as Novikov fistbumped everyone except Pablo on the walkout and apparently there was something on Novikov's Instagram story before that.

From the way even Eddie Hall was talking it seems Pavlo has a massive ego at least. His stack for this was also supposedly ridiculous.

Yeah, there was a link on Reddit that said if you spoke Russian, your mind would be blown.

Being old, I remember showing Andreas Munzer's stack to the guy who owned the gym I was training in at the time. He shook he head and said that he thought he was hardcore because he was taking a couple of dbol a day in his prime!

Anyone following the current 'controversy' around Aronold? Shaw and an annoyingly large amount of strength athletes are funking idiots.

Aye, they're all braindead momos - apparently Thor's cameraman (Runar) kicked off at Shaw (don't think it was directly directed at Shaw specifically, but just the general theme of it) but got a ton of backlash so deleted

There's a few posts about it in the general COVID thread

Anthony Furhman had a go as well and Rob Kearney too I think.

Is kind of funny its mostly American's supporting Shaw and then Tom Stoltman, though probably not surprising given he's die hard Ranger and has all the political opinions that comes with.
