wales are massivly overrated

... whilst also away from home and with the interpretations of a Super15 ref.

To me, it seems as if there's a non-existent gap between Wales (and England) and Australia (and South Africa).

Oh dear. The gap only narrows when dodgy reffing decisions give the NH sides a massive leg up as has been the IRBs clear intention over the last 10 years in a pathetic attempt to make union a "world" game. England won an entire world cup campaign thanks to this mantra. End of.

Sorry are you saying that England got to two world cup finals because the ref's were instructed to go easy on them to narrow the gap?

You must have missed the memo, the England side of 2002/2003 had no backs, and we never scored a try.
Jason Robinson? Figment of your imagination.
Will Greenwood? Never existed.

etc.

Australia were carried in the '03 final by 'dodgy reffing decisions'.

and as for Tim Payne...

...we can only wish he never existed

Yes and no. Wales clearly are the best NH side just now, but they are overrated in the sense that they thought they were going to beat Australia. And if I remember the build up to the first test correctly, quite easily too.

how are they "clearly" the best NH side? their performances in the Six Nations against England and Ireland in 6N were impressive but not dominant in a way that would justify such a statement.

I don't think Wales are overrated. It's a mixture of fatigue, and lack of form plus some hard luck. The series literally could've gone either way.

Call Wales overrrated all you like.

- The players are young and highly talented. The RWC 2011 team will hardly be impacted at all from retirement.
- The coaches are amongst the best anywhere.
- Wales missed a few players to injury. Key players at that.
- Wales have a good list of matches between now and 2015. Watch for new stars in the 2013 tour of Fiji and Samoa.
- The Sevens team are World Champions from Dubai 2009
- The Under 20 side was third in the world this month.

RWC 2015 will be very open with a lot of contenders. Wales being one of them.

I'm not entirely sure which thread is worse - 'Wales are massively overrated' OR 'Wales 2 Australia 1' AKA just another '**** the ref' thread. Both were clearly wirrten by 14 year old kids

another win down under for scotland! and another debut try scorer, maybe scotland should play southern hemisphere opposition instead of 6 nations and we might do well! also good to see wales choke again, for me the welsh are massivly overrate and shouldnt be considered the best northern hemisphere side untill they can consitently beat southern hemisphere sides. in the last 3 years they have only beaten argentina, samoa x2, fiji and namibia. compared to scotland who have beat australia home and away, samoa home and away, fiji, home and away, south africa, and argentina twice away.

I admit wales do have lots of quality individuals in their side and most of the lions back next year will probably be welsh though

does anyone else agree?

Oh, right, so Scotland's better than Wales right now XD

Why would anyone lose time writing this ?...ESPECIALLY at this point in time, right after a strong RWC, a Grand Slam, and almost beating Australia twice in a row...

OP, you massively weaken your argument by spending more time talking about Scotland than justifying why Wales are overrated.

Are Wales overrated? IMO in the rugby world at large, no. They are by certain Welsh supporters thanks to a culture promoted by the Welsh media, but opinions from elsewhere seem to agree and be about right to me.

Are Scotland overrated? Not any more IMO. Their 3 place rise in the rankings puts them about where they belong to me. Other than a one off match against an under strength Aussie side, played in a monsoon, it is hard to make a case for them being a better side than any of those ranked above them - would Scotland be odds on to beat any of them in a World Cup match if one appeared out of thin air tomorrow. The ranking system actively aims to avoid overreacting to major upsets for a good reason.

How did I miss out on getting involved in this thread??? This is a beauty of a thread, shame I missed the hype!!! :( :( :(

The whole cockyness comes from a select few supporters that create posts on forums such as TRF, and believe that after 1 freak win against a B/C team from the southern Hemisphere, we should be crowned best in NH. Yes there are many deluded fans over in Wales, and every other country - part of the joys of being a sports supporter really. It could be argued that the majority of these blind supporters have never played a single minute of competitive rugby themselves, and use the 6 nations to get p!!s!d and take advantage of worse for wear females, after a grueling match against the old enemy!

Always the 1 idiots comments that get noticed over the mounds of realistic posts by supporters!!!

Anyways, I'm now going to celebrate gaining a 2:1 in my university degree, by Job and house hunting in Cardiff (But only after some sleep)!

It depends how you're rating Wales though.

Wales seem to have birdged the gap between themselves and the Wallabies (although it's a different Australian team nowadays. But you could say the same I about Wales I suppose). If you're saying Wales are the best Northern hemisphere team, that seems like a pretty fair statement to make. They are the six nations champions - and while England managed to take away a draw from their series, they had their chance earlier in the year. Fairly simple.

If you're going around saying Wales are hot **** then obviously thats not true. At the end of the day, they still lost three times in a row - they aren't perfect by a long way. As for Scotland, they did alright but if you put them in a 3 test series on a dry track against (full strength) Aus, they would likely have the daylights knocked out of them.
