Are you American? Our sports organizations are money printing machines.

An NBA team just sold for more money than every single rugby club and international union combined. And it's the 3rd most popular sport in the country.

If world rugby was smart, they would hire some American sports execs from the NFL and let them start from scratch on most things.
Yeah yeah America is so great blah blah.

America doesn't have sport. It has advertisements with breaks of sport between them. Honestly, I don't know how any of you put up with it. It's comical.

Its no wonder the rest of the world wants **** all to do with American Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey....apart from Canada I suppose

To be fair, who else are they going to play sport with 😀

Quite enjoyed the ice hockey match I went to when I was there. Didn't have a clue what was going on but the atmosphere was good and it didn't last for 5 hours or just go end to end to score every 12 seconds

They closed the (outrageously expensive and I say that as someone that lived in London for 15 years until very recently) bars as soon as they game started and you couldn't get any food afterwards either. Was a bit of a culture what

Ice Hockey is fab. At least they can just punch someone in the grid and avoid the mock hand bags

Wales squad to tour Japan

Forwards: Nicky Smith, Gareth Thomas, Garyn Phillips, Keiron Assiratti, Chris Coleman, Archie Griffin, Dewi Lake (capt), Liam Belcher, Elliot Dee, Ben Carter, Teddy Williams, Freddie Thomas, James Ratti, Taine Plumtree, Aaron Wainwright, Alex Mann, Taulupe Faletau, Tommy Reffell, Josh Macleod.

Backs: Kieran Hardy, Reuben Morgan-Williams, Rhodri Williams, Sam Costelow, Dan Edwards, Ben Thomas, Johnny Williams, Joe Roberts, Macs Page, Josh Adams, Tom Rogers, Blair Murray, Keelan Giles, Cameron Winnett.

It's a bizzarre old squad isn't it?

Up front Garyn Phillips, Coleman, Carter all surprises. There's not many choices at prop, but Coleman in particular is an odd one as he hasn't developed much recently and still struggles in rhe scrum. I'd be picking Fender all day over Carter.

Chuffed for Ratti and Macleod though, both really deserve their recalls. Surely Morse should be there? Not been ripping up trees recently, but he's clearly the future. Also would have maybe liked to see one of Coughlan or Evan Lloyd at hooker over Dee, but nice to see Belcher finally rewarded for years of form.

In the backs Josh Adams really doesn't deserve to be there ahead of Mee or Hamer-Webb! Nuts to think Giles is still uncapped depite first being involved in a Wales squad almost 10 years ago. He's never quite recovered that blistering pace/agility, but he's a far more rounded player now, and I'm delighted to see him in.

Also happy to see RMW there at SH, great player imo, and Hardy has been in blisteeing form too. I thought Winnett has really shown his weaknesses for Cardiff recently, so also surprised he's there. Expected Jarrod Evans to be there too, but not been following if he's actually played much for Quins recently.

From the squad selected though, I'd be looking at a team of:

Smith, Lake, Griffin
Teddy Williams, Ratti
Plumtree, Faletau, Macleod

Hardy, Dan Edwards
Johnny Williams, Roberts
Murray, Rogers, Giles

Belcher, Gareth Thomas, Assiratti, Freddy Thomas, Wainwright, Morgan-Williams, Ben Thomas, Page

I can see Reffell starting, but Macleod has really impressed me this season, such a warrior. Plumtree has been in sublime form, so edges Wainwright at 6. Couple of club combos at halfback and centre should help. Then I've gone for Rogers at fullback and Murray on the wing. Murray is too exposed with his height at 15, but could roam like Shane used to do from the wing.

A squad built for ice dancing.

Such a sad squad, but what do we expect, a coach humiliated, and who sacrificed his club's run at a playoff place to take on 3 games with Wales, which he'll now sacrifice pre season preparations also... at least he has a 100% record though! No future, no forethought, strategy. I'd want to at least see some of the younger boys get exposed, Morse, Lloyd etc..

My big issues with selection are:

Coleman is a real weakness, rewarded with an int call up?!

How do you not select Lloyd, Dee and Belcher (absolutely made up for him) are solid, but summer tours are here to help players just like Lloyds progression.

James Ratti - FML!!! There have been some poor players wearing red over the last few seasons, but this might be the worst. He failed at Cardiff, and is treading water in a poor Ospreys team.

Falatau, I know we need a win, but let him take an off season, manage him, why flog him he's so riddled with injuries?! Wainright can cover 8, as can Plumtree and we need a Falatau replacement desperately anyway!

Are these the best 9s available really?! Hardy the best of the bunch, RMW deserves to be looked at, what's happened to Bevan. Rumours he's not injured but out of favour at Cardiff, anyone heard anything?

OMG our 10 options are abysmal, all my hopes ride on Edward's stepping up, otherwise our next best option is currently playing u20s.

Johnny William's, I get it, big strong, abrasive, stands out, and has failed 100% on the int stage. He has never played more than a 4/10 for Wales, he just seems to be one of those guys who can't make the step, maybe like Mcleod. I cannot believe Eddie James hasn't been selected, is he injured?

Keegan Giles and Winnet aren't good enough, let's be real. Giles is a good club man, but I don't see him stepping up. That said, of all the players to be wrong about, Giles might be my pick, he does have the type of athleticism, and has become more rounded in recent seasons.

Why not give Mee some more exposure?! Adam's needs anpre season, he looks a shadow of his former self, it seems his legs have gone, why not let him rest and recover fully?

All in all, looks like a squad selected for a job interview, no long term strategy.

I think we will really struggle in Japan!

Sorry only just seen this. You're such a distraction in other places I miss some of your more insightful posts. Things I disagree with as always but a lot to agree with there. Sad that 9 is an actual problem position for us now.

At some point we need to sit and have a pint and fix welsh rugby once and for all!!!
