What's your squad look like?

Presumably he would need to be eligible to play for Ireland now which would mean his last cap for USA would need to have been over 3 years ago.
I wonder if there are concrete rules around representation - I mean it's not like it's a traditional international side with union affiliation or something
Presumably it says somewhere you need to be a representative of one of the four unions but be interesting to see if there's any loopholes

I always assumed it was someone who belonged to the home unions and/or qualified as a home union international player

The kit needs revamping.

The shirt is Welsh red.

The socks are Scottish blue with a flash of Irish green.

The shorts are English white. But as all 4 countries wear white shorts as a matter of course that doesn't really translate into something really identifiably English.

The kit should alternate between colours, either match by match or tour by tour.

Or maybe by representation - doesn't seem right that Ireland with the highest representation only get a green sock flash or Wales with virtually no tourists get the shirt colour.
Agreed yes, for example this tour should be royal blue, ditch the logo too, a nice harp would do it.

To me the logical thing would be yes, they could pick AJ or any other player. I believe that they are essentially a joint single purpose partnership rather than a nation, essentially the barbarians but limited to four countries.

So this lends another question, could the US deny aj the ability to tour? Do the lions have the ability to just name players in their squad? Could one of the home nations say they don't want a certain player in the squad?

Would AJ MacGinty be eligible for the Lions?
Born and raised in Ireland, but plays for USA because of residency he did over a decade ago
So very he played for the USA in autumn internationals 2024, he wouldn't be eligible to play for any home nation national team.

I found an article on an American website that Lions eligibility is based around WR's rules for nations, so only those qualified to play internationally for each home nation can be picked. Dunno if that's 100% fact or not.

Wonder if we'll ever see a situation where they call someone up who isn't capped and is an ancestry player based abroad

Like if there was an injury this tour and they called up Hoskins Sotutu

Can't see anything to contradict that and makes perfect sense.

I guess if they are eligible and just uncapped then why not.

No major shockers in the selection IMO and the balance between nations is about fair considering the 6N results. Tomos Williams maybe edged it ahead of Ben White to give a second red shirt on tour and I don't mind that, it's a real 50/50. Darcy Graham is unlucky to miss out, I would have maybe picked him over VDM if pushed from a Scottish viewpoint.

Excited to see what the backs can do, hope Sione is fit again to be in contention - Russell/Tuipolotu/Jones could be magic..

Hate when surgery's are delayed, feel like it often ends in a much worse layoff - like IFW
Depends.
From everything we know, IFW was right to try rehab first, even if it didn't work out.

I hate when appropriate treatment is delayed in order to play through the injury and make it worse in both the short and long term.

No, the Lions kit, including the red shirt, is iconic.

If you were starting again, you might do a hooped kit or quartered kit, involving all colours; but it's too late for that now.

Here here.
If you're taking the tradition out of the Lions, then quite honestly, you're taking the Lions out of rugby.
If you're revamping the Lions shirt - then just make it a significantly deeper red than Wales use. BURGUNDY, or BLOOD-RED; not WELSH FLAG RED - which they've almost done this this year, but hasn't always been the case.
