But, as the local PS3 pundit, do you think you could tell me what kind of games it will be offering in the next year or so? As I said I'm considering buying one before going home, but I had previously considered buying an XBOX360 as well... What kept me away from the 360 was that to me it really only offered good FPS ***les exclusively (something I feel the PC does 100 times better, and recent release of "Crysis" - game so good it has defecated on the face of the mediocre HALO 3 and then proceded to smear it into all available orifices - seems to have vindicated this). But what does the PS3 (apart from all the Blue-ray stuff) offer in terms of exclusivity? What type of games will be it's bread and butter would you imagine?

Hmmmm...some of these upcoming exclusives are tempting



God of War III. Well the name pretty much says it all.

Gran Turismo 5 (and Prologue). The master of all racing sims.



Those two ***les are enough to keep me happy in the knowledge that the only way to play it is on that console.



Other exclusive ***les coming up have captured my interest.



Syphon Filter PS3. I haven't touched this since the PS1 days and to have a PS3 version will bring back the old memories again

Tekken 6. I hate Tekken but am always hopeful that the next version will foster my interest.

Dark RPG. This will be interesting if Syphon Filter fails.



In the meantime I will probably get straight into Unreal Tournament III...really surprised that this is not a multiplatform game....

Try backwards compatible with 60% of the Xbox ***les. Thats about accurate from what I've seen.

Can you swap out the hard drive on an Xbox 360 and replace it with any generic laptop hard drive, upto 250gb? You can on PS3 and that'll only cost you when you want to. You also get to buy it from whatever company you want.

The charge kits for the PS3 controllers are standard USB 2.0 cables, you can use use one from your digital camera or from your printer to your computer, or anything if you want.

No paying for it. Like the the "plug and charge" or whatever for the Xbox 360.

As for cameras. Any USB web-cam will generally work on the PS3. I'm not sure but I heard you had to buy the Xbox 360 branded model for use on that machine.

As for small controllers, the dualshock 3 is out now. A 6% larger body and 1% smaller than the Xbox controller.

Well you can choose to either plug in an external hard drive or swap out your existing one with something like this from Trade Me NZ (you'll probably have an even cheaper source in Aussie:

Here's a guide on how easy it is to swap out a hard drive. Seriously after having a PS3 for a day you'd know enough to do it yourself (no wiring etc).

Well, the whole thing is that the PS3 is going to become a Digital TV DVR(Digital Video Recorder). Sony has struck a deal with both our major tv networks in New Zealand and a few in Australia to allow people to record tv onto our PS3's. This will take up a fair bit of hard drive space, so it can only be good to update so easy. The easiest thing to overlook is that there's no reason a consumer can't absorb the cost of the PS3 and do this some 2-3 or even 6 months later.

The DVR feature is coming to PS3 in Mar-Apr '08. It's probably also going to be a 360 feature somewhere along the line, but I'm not sure. Sounded to me that Sony had it sewn up in a deal when I heard about it in October. In any case, the upgradable hard drive (using generic brands) feature is an exclusive.

I've heard that the largest size available in 2.5" notebook size has just recently gone up to 320gb.

I don't know if any other 360 owners out there have this problem, but my console sounds like a f***ing rip-roaring engine when I'm playing games. I usually have to turn the volume up to about 35 (quite high on my tele) just to be able to hear Martin Tyler and Clyde Tyldesly on FIFA08.

Yep...thats the first thing I noticed when they first came out and me and my brother hired a console a fe times to suss it out. It put me off buying one on the spot because it reminded me of the over heating problems of the first one. Though I am sure they fixed up the fan in later models.
