A Political Thread pt. 2

Putin on RT live now. He is going to declare recognition for Donbass as independent it would seem. Obviously won't be recognised by anyone else and doesn't change the reality on the ground at all. I don't expect Ukraine to do anything in response as Russia has already been handing out Russian passports to those in the Donbass, which is probably an equal provocation. Good chance this is face-saving mode. Please, please, please.

Or just want to remain relevant on the world stage which was pretty much the reason he got so involved in Syria

Yes. Although Assad and Iran are staunch Russian allies, so better to have Assad than a US ally, a Turkish ally or utter chaos like Daesh.

He'll accept an independent status and help for Donbas, I'm pretty sure. But is talking for 30 min already about nothing, history etc dammit, blaming the USSR etc etc really...why not to say shortly. Decided to give a history level

Sounds like a lot of bluster. If he was going to invade he will have just done it

I've never listened to Putin live before. He is like your old uncle who is a little too fond of his own voice and opinions. He seemed to just say that Ukraine is sending Islamic militants to attack Russia and is developing a nuclear weapon. No joke.

The key point will be does his recognition of independence include flooding Donbass with Russian troops. That must incur additional sanctions with no major upside for Russia, so hopefully not.

Now he is butthurt because Clinton didn't let Russia join NATO. I must have missed that one Vlad! His history lesson has only got up to 2000, he must have another 45mins left in him.

Britain’s soft power definitely been eroded due to Brexit IMO. You only had to look at how Bojo and Truss were marginalised recently and Macron meeting with Putin to see that. But Perception is definitely harder to measure. Having Bojo come out with his recent rhetoric I just thought to myself - I just don't believe this Clown and ignored it.

Now Bojo is commenting about Putin breaking international law.

@Bruce_ma gooshvili he was talking about it before as well, it's not a new information (that they didn't let Russia join NATO).
AAAAnd..is still talking. Jesus, what a superstar, annoys me
Sorry, the translator said "I've never said this before". I think NATO would contest there was no such serious request from Russia. Maybe behind closed doors he repeated the USSR move (see history thread).

He's getting to the point. Ukraine is torturing women and children every day. Rolls out the genocide term (a claim Scholz of Germany called 'ludicrous' today, showing he has lost any patience with Putin).

Yep, we'll invade UK instead of Ukraine. Kidding. Independence of Donbas
Nothing really changes, but we'll be supporting Donbas "officially" now. What was the reason for all that circus
