Yep I think this is important. Our generation (I'm younger than you I assume but not by much) has never seen this in E, but my family, being from a war torn part of the world is unsurprised and upset but oddly unphased.

I've long believed in freedom being the ultimate moral good and that humans inherintly desire it, but situations such as this challenge that belief.

Long live freedom and Ukraine - don't forget for a second how privileged we are to be able to argue on this forum.

I think this forum has done a good of not acting like this is something we can relate to. I’ve seen some on the American left (which I’m somewhat apart of, more on environmental issues) comparing this to **** in America. My response was unless you were a native in the 1700s you have no idea what these people are going through. Having a foreign power invade is something I can’t even comprehend.

Im just glad the discourse on here has been light hearted yet aware of the privilege we share not to involuntarily have war. My heart goes out to yulia and all those in the area cause I truly can’t comprehend what this is like. I don’t know how to help but I’ll throw some bones to the Ukrainian Red Cross cause I imagine they will need it right now.

Aye, Ignorant definitely. I think they have been brainwashed by tv/movies - hence why so many post on social media that the Avengers can save Ukraine.o_O Why else would 48% vote for a tv personality to play their POTUS?
 
Honestly if I had to pick a side I prob wouldn’t pick the one with Rey from stars wars in.

I have a lot of respect for Elon Musk one of the few rich people who seems to push boundaries now, but dude is too much of a dick for me to call him a legend
 
Elon shoots his shot and sometimes he looks like a dick. I saw something about him trying to protect ISS that looked dumb as hell but good on him for providing Internet.

At least grimes is free again

To me the thing that sealed him being a dick for me was when he called the British rescue diver a pedo simply because they refused Musks help because his little submarine thing wasn't practical for what they were trying to achieve. He wanted to be a hero and when he couldn't he sulked and threw out stupid accusations. The fact he was protected when he was sued for defamation was pretty sickening. I do like how he pushes the boundaries but there is no denying he is a monumental prick.

Being a *** is pretty closely aligned with being a boundary pusher in any industry tbf, whether that's science, tech, music or whatever.

I'm sure there's a psychological reason why but I've always just assumed that the bullishness required is a thin line to arseholness

The PM says the UK wants to be generous, but Labour says the visa rules are "unclear" for Ukrainians.

So Britain has offered to take in only immediate family members of people settled here. Doesn't sound like a lot. According to this website it's less than 20,000 (https://www.statista.com/statistics/1253302/ukraine-population-in-united-kingdom/). I also assume all of them are not 'settled'.

Honestly it's pathetic. These people are fleeing for their lives and the UK will only help them if they have some in the country already to financially support them.

So apparently a Russian commercial plane violated Canadian airspace after Canada banned Russian flights. What did Canada go? Nothing. They will review the situation for future flights.

If you are going to do something follow through. Otherwise it just makes you look weak and pathetic and undermines everything.
