A Political Thread pt. 2

The Tories really are scraping rte bottom of the barrel with Jenrick. Bad enough being Braverman's immigration office boy but he was a truly awful SoS for housing with Grenfell happening on his watch.
Did he do the shady deal with Dirty Desmond on some sort of property project as well? Private Eye were on it at the time but I can't recall the details

I imagine this supreme court will simply rule that the emergency powers let Trump do it and then offer nothing on the legitimacy of said emergency, IE if a president declares an emergency, then there's an emergency. No oversight or check on it.

They'll swiftly reverse their decision though if the president is a democrat.

It'll go to the supreme more than likely, but it's a strange situation...

Judges take partisan stances, Trump starts war with them, they retaliate, Trump retaliates...

If I was China now though, I'd announce a 150% Tarriff on the USA hahahaha

He basically allowed house builders to cut corners and use cheap unsafe materials. I can see the Tories changing leader a couple of times before the next GE.
In all honesty there were some massive cock ups by lots of people and agencies.

Not checking fire ratings, people lied about fire ratings, communal areas full of waste and combustible materials. Little to no checking of the building and so on.

The knock on from this is that hardly anyone is currently getting planning approved for blocks of flats over 6 floors. Which is one of many reasons Labour are not likely to meet the building targets they set.

Flats are a nightmare. I'm trying to sell mine now but because the ground rent is over £250 per year, many mortgage companies will not touch it with a barge pole. Getting the lease amended to a peppercorn rate will cost me thousands...

Yeah it's not all down to him but he did sweet FA to improve things during his tenure.

The whole system is a mess - from building to buying and selling. I had the misfortune of owning a place in London and couldn't believe how flawed and convoluted the selling process is. It's basically designed to create a mini economy with solicitors, estate agents, surveyors, banks and of course the Govt all getting a slice of the action. Chains are a mess and no wonder people get stressed with so many transactions falling through near the end of the process.

Like the train system and other things I don't know why we don't look at other countries who do it much better than us and copy them. It's not rocket science.

Investment firms also building 1 in 5 as build to rent. 30% new build in London estimated as build to rent.

Spoke with a property owner / landlord last month. Said option A is he could put a nice family into a large house and have no dramas.

Or option B convert it to a 6 bed HMO then charge students a fortune and keep the deposits.

Across all his properties most have gone on to being a HMO.

Most likely next leader of the Tory Party

**** me they are no hopers.
Plays to the crowd. But can’t stand fare dodgers either. Especially the ones who wait sneakily behind paying ones and sneak through after. TFL staff refuse to do anything about it. Well might as well be a free for all then.

The reason the trade court ruled against him was because he declared tariffs outside the purview of the emergency act he declared.

Now today and appeals court has put a temporary halt in n that decision.

Appeals court pauses ruling that blocked Trump's tariffs

But a second court, one assumes isn't ruled by this appeal also blocked trump.

This point could be interesting though.

Trump tariffs decision rests on arguments conservatives repeatedly used against Biden

Which ever way it goes, there's more to come and more market manipulation.

Yeah I hate them too, used to be a group of shits I'd see at Canary Wharf at least once a week after work bumping through the barriers that were on the quiet side.

Jenrick can still **** off though. I'd bet money he made sure he was at Stratford when the armed police were hanging around there waiting for the dealers going in and out of Essex

The supreme court have already shown they are quite content to ignore all precedent and even the actual wording of laws to let Trump do what he wants. I think they will simply state he can, regardless of what any law actually says. Hell they have shown themselves to be perfectly happy to contradict what they were saying only a few months ago when Biden was president. These people are completely shameless.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, after all they've already given him a free pass.

Doesn't mean to say it's right, or that the Americans as a whole will accept it.

It's definitely not right, but this is possibly the most corrupt and partisan supreme court in decades.
Isn't it a system issue. My understanding is Trump lucked out by getting to appoint two judges who were likely to rule on his side. Given him a more likely majority. I don't think picking fights with judges is that good a move for him

Still other president tend to pick those who are likely to rule in there favour. The system is fooked.
