Welsh Rugby Stuff

Wasn’t really keen on this appointment but coming round to it. Think coaching team is crucial (wonder if Sherratt will be tapped up for the attack coach role) but he’s got a job on his hands either way to be honest.

He's done an excellent job with Scotland's defence. This will be another level and tbh some of the issues are above him and out of his control. Guess we'll see in the autumn if there are signs of improvement.

We don’t have a ridiculously hard autumn with Argentina and Japan so it would be good if we can make the Argentina game close (and beat Japan obviously)

Looking further to the 6N if we can just beat Italy (not really seen anything in our performances against Japan that suggests we will) and be competitive against Scotland I’ll be happy with that, then build from there.

Bit of a meh appointment for me. He might be capable of building something with Wales, but I was after someone with a proven track record as a head coach!

His only real experience as the main man was with the Ospreys where he started off really well, but the wheels quickly fell off. Also gotta remember it was a stacked squad back then!

He was properly thrown into the deep end though, so it didn't surprise me that he struggled, and he's gone away and improved as a coach, but it's been as assistant. Think he should have had another HC gig at a club / region before being put in charge of Wales.

Maybe no one else was interested though!

Big positive is that at least we finally have someone appointed and can move on. He certainly needs good people around him, so that will be really interesting.

Will be really interesting to see his first squad too. I don't think Gats or Sherratt really got selection right over the past few years, so hopefully he can at least pick the form players in their natural positions and build a spine of a team to allow us to build.

Tough gig for anyone really. Hard to build if the player pool lacks quality and volume.

Having said that, Tandy has the skillset to make you harder to beat. I guess that has to be the starting point and then build from there.

What's the latest with LRZ? Getting him back could be exactly the type of boost needed.

He's still failing miserably trying to play a pretend sport but at least he's good looking and is marketable so will be another year before he comes back.

Well when you can still be paid ridiculously well for failing miserably, you might as well stay on the gravy train. Let's be honest, he'll walk back in to the side so he can probably leave it until the last minute and still make the RWC squad.

From a timing POV, a pre-RWC boost might be better anyway?

Yeah you can tell he is a PR machine for Jags now, I have seen zero training footage of him this year
But he's at least doubled his social media following since the switch (Prob even more than that), and seems to enjoy dating in the influencer circle.

Being in Florida as a 24 year old, with some money and social media presence if prob a pretty nice life.

100%. Professionally unfulfilling but a great lifestyle. I can understand him making hay while the sun shines (literally).

He’s also in a position where he can just walk back into the Welsh squad whenever he likes and will be welcomed with open arms.

The other bonus for him is that he got to avoid the utter **** show that has been the last couple of years (and it’s not like him being available for us would’ve made any significant difference really) but if he comes back next year we could, hopefully, be on a bit of an upward trajectory and that’s when he could make a significant impact.

So...

LRZ was back in the UK recently promoting NFL stuff, saw him in the gym and apparently he is feeling super confident of an acceleration in his fortunes this season, with a regular season place almost guaranteed.

Just kidding, he looked, Instagram esque. New tats, tan and swagger, he didnt feel like a rugby player any more. And to be honest, i dont blame him, he was saying he was doing off season work with a small group of players in the Bahamas, beats running up and down Merthy Mawr in the rain.

I think a return will always be on the cards, due to his ability and ease of which he played, but realistically I think he's all in on the sun, sea and celeb lifestyle.

He has a few more weeks to convince the new coach he can contribute this season, leading up to the September opener, if he doesn't make an immediate impact in the coming weeks he's all but done (short of a freakishly long set of injuries). Hell tread water all year before they just fail to make the playoffs and he finishes his season early, and the speculation starts again.

Rugby will always be a safety net if his career goes south IMO
