Not sure it's Earl or Burry contract that should be debated its Pollocks.

Underhill was a shock but injures so I get why, one I'm shocked about Cunningham-South didn't get one. I know people will say similar to Underhill but CCS is young, has been involved in every Borthwick squad, even back up lock now and he's been getting better.
I think CCS is still raw with quite a lot of work ons for his position (6 or even 8) ie His defensive alignment, and a few other things. I think they'll be looking for him to have a progressive season this year...show he is developing.

He's had half an hour of test match experience.

Against Wales.

It's a very odd decision to me.

Before he’s started shaving he’s got a central contract and a Lions tour. He’s got a shedload of learning to do, but both SB and Farrell are highly analytical so they must be seeing substance beyond the highlights.

It’s not difficult to imagine him starting to get regular bench time over the next year, so from that perspective it makes perfect sense for him to get a contract.

I guess the exciting thing is that his weaknesses are more technical so would seem to be coachable, but his points of difference are more natural and instinctive. Experience will help hugely, but much of his future success may depend on how willing he is to listen and learn, which isn’t always a given with huge natural talents.

But if he does have second season syndrome and/or sides work him and his low level of experience out and he fizzles, we seem to be locked into picking a 1 cap 20 year old to justify the cost of the CC.

I'm not having the usual pop at him, but the logic simply doesn't stack up.

That is also fair. It’s not without risk but it is quite nice to see a youngster being backed.

One of the good things about him is that he’s not made his mark by being particularly bigger than or outmuscling his age group peers. He’s fast, but he’s fast full stop, not caveated for age or anything else.

The good thing is that there is a raft of young options all over the team coming through who are giving us genuine hope. Maybe only lock is a tricky one but even there we have some kids not too far down the line who are huge and athletic.

Mr Borthwick has a big job to get it right now.

Not sure what the answer is. Keep all the promising players at there club to gain experience. They are raw, need a development season and so on.

Then moan like hell when we get to the RWC with players with less than 10 caps, and say Borthwick isn't bringing players through.

The kids have to put their hand up for selections to the relevant squads (A, Full team) by playing outstandingly for their clubs.

They need to be playing better than the old men, BUT there does need to be a point where the kids are involved and get valuable game time.

Borthwick "in general" doesn't pick the young kids until they have a few prem seasons under their belt at a certain performance level.

Oh thing i wonder if the the CC for Pollock is more than just rugby, yes he's skillfully and went on a lions tour where he did look good. But also maybe because of how much interest him being in the squad brings to England from casual fans.

But yes I'd rather give it to someone else(maybe a 12) and pick him anyway on form in the squad.

I get it's all preference but I see underhill as one of our top 2 back rows with curry.

I know Earl and Burry and also fantastic but for me Underhill has the USP of banging people.
I’d agree his really is a momentum swinger and has proved that time and again, I know it’s not many but he has had a few cards recently in his earlier career he consistently put in dominating momentum stopping hits with a pretty much flawless record discipline wise, I wonder if that, the concussions and being the most hotly contested position is why he misses out, he has nothing to prove and can be brought in for one off games where his USP stands out might also be others are more useful strengths across the board.
