Is there any chance there is some kind of agreement in contracts that there has to be coaching development aswell. I mean i wouldnt use England to train coaches...but you know what the RFU are like. Trying to produce more rounded coaches giving them stints in each role. Some may then take up head coach roles at Prem clubs?

Just a thought...as i cant work out why coaches would be moved around so often otherwise....and whatever we think of Borthick...i thought he liked structure in place.

Well that aged well.

According to the Times, the move to defence is part of Wiggles development plan. Bet it's not on his annual appraisal form….

Just feels like a knee jerk reaction to Blackett doing OK over the summer. Which isn't to say I don't rate Blackett, just that I wasn't aware there was a vacancy.

How is international rugby in anyway a way to develop someone? Why not make him either a headcoach role under Borthwick as a DOR type role. And Wiggs as an assistant coach of Attack and Defence, then yes he can develop find his feet and what he's best at. He is clearly a good coach but is he ready is the question.....same question as when he was first hired?

So Sinfield wasn't good enough to stay on as defence coach, Felix Jones left, Joe Al-abd isn't good enough so now let's try Wiggs?....am I missing something? Wiggs secret experience in defence coaching? Or what?

Until the six nations, when Sinfield moves to scrum coach and they bring in Ben Youngs to run the lineout
The last time Ben Youngs did running of any sort, working from home was a luxury afforded to only a few people.

How else are they going to get Wigglesworth ready to replace Borthwick as head coach?

Joking aside if that is the plan then let him be he assistant to attack/defence/skills and learn all round whilst ones who are ready take the lead.

Wigglesworth was Canada defence coach for a time, so has coached defence before. ;)

Defence and kicking coach at the 2019 RWC no less.

We'll overlook the 63-0 loss to the ABs. Could happen to anyone.

We'll charitably ignore the 66-7 loss to the Boks who were fairly good at the time.

And polite to probably turn a blind eye to the 48-7 defeat to Italy. Anyone can have an off day.

But we will give him full credit for the 0-0 in the cancelled game against Namibia.

So in the Pool of Mediocrity the Wiggles inspired defence had a points difference of a mere -163 from 3 games.

Borthwick departure announced according to a ruck notification I just recieved not had a chance to look into it further…

Just says his contract extends throughout the 2027 RWC

Your right, the notification said change preferred, I was working at the time, really didn't have time to delve deeper, I interpreted that as a bit sooner.

Seeing as it looks like Wigglesworth is likely next in line I'd have felt much better about that if he'd have gone back to Tigers for two seasons in the head role rather than played musical chairs with England
Gawd, England finally start to look in part like a team finding some attack only to bring in the least attacking SC in the history of SHs you couldn't make it up….

A few things …

1) Bath need to agree to releasing Blackett. There's no guarantee they'll do that.

2) Byron McGuigan has very little experience as a coach and while he was a decent winger, there was no indication he'd become a highly promising defence coach. Who's to say Wigglesworth might be a good defence coach? We don't know he is but we also don't know he isn't.

3) Is Wigglesworth nailed on to be Borthwick's successor? I would imagine England might fancy going after Andy Farrell.

As it would, given he signed a 5 year deal in Dec 22! Then goes on to speculate that he wouldn't be given a new one because the RFU are anti long reigns after what happened with Jones and SCW.

No more than that. Total silly season non story.
