Nothing so far. Postering on both sides. Unsure if Trump has the legal authority to call in the national guard.

I’ll speak to my sister and bro in law later. They’ll sort it out. They’re quite a way away from the Southside but I reckon they’ll be well received and whatever drama there is will be resolved.
Is it really that bad there or is the situatiion exaggerated?
Certain neighborhoods are very bad. The area I live in the average house sells for $2m+.
It’s all dependent on the neighborhood. However, during and briefly after COVID it got really bad. Carjackings all over the city. Murder and robbery rate surged.
For 99% of tourists, you will only stay in the nice areas where’s it’s unbelievable. But travel too far west or south and you are in for a rude awakening.
Put it this way...
In DC, crime was down 30% 2023 => 2024 (with violent crime being the lowest it's been for 60 years, exempting covid)
DC was doing well enough on crime, that DT was claiming credit for how well it was doing a few months(?) ago
43 cities in three states have higher violent crime than DC
Many of the states sending troops in to DC have (significantly) higher rates of crime, violent crime and murder.
This was all before DT decided there was a crime wave that warranted a state of emergency, and armed soldiers on the street.

This is a very good chart from a local. For context, I live on the North Side which is about as safe as Toronto.
Much like Johnson I assume most things he says are a lie or more accurately whatever random **** he wants to say so he can't be sure if he's lying.
How is sending the national guard in going to help with community policing though?
It would add more boots on the ground.
We are done several hundred cops from 2019 because of the idiotic defund the police movement.
It’s also nearly impossible to higher cops because they are constantly micromanaged.
Boots on the ground when are you guys going to realise policing fails miserably when its a show of force/militarisation, fosters resentment in communities and leads to more violent crimes like rioting by marginlised groups?

What’s funny is you absolutely cannot trust crime stats anymore. It’s all juked and/or not reported.
Someone gets their home broken into, but they know the cops won’t do anything. So they simply don’t say anything.

I agree that this is a common problem with crime statistics but then you can come up with models that take this into account but it's tricky for sure.
I'm not clued up on American crime stats but I did hear Trump has got rid of crime in Washington as mates of his who were too scared to go out for a meal now do so without a care. Kind of like Russia under Stalin. No crime. He'll sort out Chiraq I'm sure.
Yeah speaking from person experience having certain boots on the ground hinders more things than it helps. Crime is solved and managed at the community level with trained officers. Having a load of young squaddies with guns walking about with no clear mission is something you should look to avoid.

I mean, it’s insane that this is even a conversation in the United ******* States of ******* America FFS. What has happened.
These communities are fundamentally broken. It would be better to bulldoze every home and start over.

Oh come on this doesn't come as any suprise given what's been going on the last few years. This is completely political and just an extension of the culture war. You ridiculed me a while back for comparing US politics to Russian politics....don't remember the Russians doing this in a Russian city since Grozny.
